Relocating family

I'm been balancing out the opportunities on relocating my family to St. Croix. I'm in the sales/managment field with Real Estate and Development. I'm concerned with the ability to continue the education with my boys ( 7 year old twins and an 11 year old). How is the educational programs and are they public or private schools?
In means of supporting my family what type of opportunities are available in the Real Estate markets for management and development potentials? If there are possibilities I would like to spend about a month on the island and visit with potential employers before we relocate. Does anybody have a job lead that I may follow up on?
Kind Regards,
Dan

Coming down and looking around is a really good idea. Just going by the Yellow Pages there seems to be a lot of real estate listing for such a small population. It's hard to see how they can all make a living.

You might want to contact some of them while you're here scouting.

Schools? Look at the school section of this site.

Hello Dan,

I would agree with Linda's suggestion. Try the Yellow Pages at http://www.viphonebook.com and search for Real Estate Agents so you have an idea of how many there are. Contact the St. Croix agents/businesses and see about sending your resume via fax to them; ask about potential jobs ect. This way you can learn more about the field from them and make contacts. Definately plan a pre-move visit, great idea, and you can visit with these offices and check out the island and schools.

There are both public and private schools on St. Croix. Visit the school section of this web site; there are links to the schools with web sites and to the District Web Site. The public school system doesn't have a good reputation right now because several years ago the high schools lost acceditation - you need to definately do you research as far as education for your children.

Thanks Linda J and Islander for your response. After reviewing and being in contact with Realtors on St. Croix it seems like there are PLENTY of Realtors on the Island vs. listings available. I also have a passion for renovationing "Cosmetically Challenged" homes or buildings. What is your opinion on the resale of these rehabed homes? Is there a market for this and are they a desired commodity?
If you where an Investor with this "mind thought" what areas would you concentrate on?
Is the Cruise ship industry on the up and ups on St. Croix?
Thanks for your response
Kind Regards, Dan

I do have an additional Question to post.
I'm still planning on a pre move "investigation" for my family in the later half of July. I would want to stay for about 2-4 weeks to determine the feasability of relocation. I would like to live as frugally as possible by staying somewhere with a Kitchenette. Any recommendations? I could even help around the place to defer costs. I would love to establish aquaintances.
All help would be appreciated.

What do you consider cheap? Will you be renting a car?

Cheap ? Great Question, I should have addressed that.
It will only be me this trip so I would say $70-$85 /night. I would be renting a car to explore the areas and Job opportunities.
Thanks again for your timely response.

You'll be able to find lots of places to stay in July for that figure. My first thought is Waves of Cane Bay. All thier rooms have cooking facilities. They are on the Northshore, near Cane Bay, so they are a little out of the way, but hey, it's a small island.

Good Luck.
