Red Hook?
Moving at the end of Aug and we have an apartment on the NE side of the island near Red Hook (job transfer, they got us the apt)-- just wondering what Red Hook is like, type of people who live there, whether you think it is a cool part of the island, etc. We're both 27 and an interracial couple-- thanks!
You could easily join those of us that happily live on the East End of the island around Red Hook. Lots of stuff going on around here. Ferries to St John STJ and the BVI's is located right here, so it's the jumping off point for all kinds of island adventures.
Marina Market and Food Center both offer a good selection of groceries. Resturants, scuba diving................come and enjoy!
Hello Molly,
The North-East Side of the island could be anywhere from Smith Bay to Sapphire area which varies in type of neighborhoods... but since you said close to Red Hook that would be closer to Sapphire which is nice, residential... in any case Red Hook is a busy little area with restaurants, grocery store, doctors offices, ice cream shop, fast food, gas station, ferry dock, marina, bars... Lots of different people live in that general area; young, old, families, folks on boats, folks in houses. As mentioned its a happening little area. As you mentioned that you are part of an inter-racial couple I will add that folks on island are welcoming, so no worries, lots of interracial couples and kids here.
Keep us posted on how your move goes.

Since we're on the subject, can I just jump in and ask about other places to live as well? I had heard about Red Hook, but if anyone can tell me about other safe and decent places to live in STT, I'd appreciate it.
Bou'ya: There are decent and even great places to live all over St Thomas. You really, really have to look and see what is most convenient and interesting for you. One thing, coming from the states, is that you are accustomed to homogeneous neighborhoods. It is much more willy-nilly here. Few zoning restrictions, etc. In the Nazareth area (east end) there are multimillion dollar properties, half-finished projects with building materials piled out front, rental properties where the seasonal workers live, villas that are rented out and some regular folk homes. No yuppie neighborhoods. Well, maybe Peterborg... 😉
It sounds like Tampa. I'll fit right in then! 😉
Thanks.
