Why bicker about water quality if bringing whatever filter equipment he wants for free is easier than boiling off the chlorine til he finds or orders what he needs online or locally?

Who's "bickering"? A blanket generalization was made which isn't true. Nor do you have to "boil off the chorine" for drinking water from the faucet.

Maybe it isn't chlorine, but whatever it is it tastes OK after.

The only point I'm making that this isn't common all over. I think you only moved here very recently here and where you live that's apparently the case but it's not the case in all residences.

The very small amount of chlorine which many residents put into their cistern monthly as a maintenance measure shouldn't be so much as to make the water taste of chlorine as in any case it quickly dissipates. Funky-tasting water often indicates that the cistern needs a complete cleaning but doesn't necessarily indicate that the water isn't potable.

If you're in the least bit unsure as to your water potability you can buy a home-testing potability kit or else ask the local water testing laboratory to come out and test the water (they're all over the islands all the time as they're federally mandated to test monthly all "public drinking facilities" - restaurants, hotels, resorts, schools, etc.) and do private residence testing also.

If you live in a relatively "dry" area, have a small cistern and need to buy water regularly, that too can make a big difference in the taste. I don't like drinking desal water as it leaves a bit of a slimy feeling in the mouth; and well water can sometimes taste a bit "rooty" for want of a better description.

Probably way too much information but it may be helpful to others!

Actually, it seems like just the right amount of info. I know Peters Farm & Princess, but some parts of the island may have tastier H20. Still, if I had carte blanche to bring stuff, the brita pitcher that went to Habitat for Humanity after it didn't sell at my yard sale would have come along, as well as a lot of other things.
The freedom to bring things that will cost double here, or need to be shipped in anyway, or be a lot of chasing around to find them here is probably different for everyone, but a truly precious commodity.
