Recommend a landscape lighting person/company?
Looking to put in just a few lights around the pool. The solar ones die in months and we also need a little light near an interesting deck step.
Looking for a recommendation.
Thanks!
I have found replacing the rechargeable batteries restore a lot of my solar lights when they stop working well.
quirion: Which island?
STX thanks!
have used the same solar lights for years. change the battery sometimes of just the battery connections. they get corroded.
with what wapa costs, i use solar when possible
Thanks. How often did you have to change the batteries on them?
Or clean the connectors?
batteries not that often. connectors not that often.
where did you get your solar lights?
i have bought expensive ones and cheap ones and the cheap ones work just as well.
i have 4 i brought back from dollar tree (1$ each of course) and have been using them now for 6 months.
what are you trying to light?
I got cheap ones from the home depot. They lasted about 3 months. Ill check the connectors and batteries and see what I can do.
Its just a little light around the pool and on one step thats a little unexpected.
are you solar lights getting enough full sun during day to charge. some take more charging time
So i had 2 sets. One is about a year old the other about 6 months.
None are working. 2 different types from home depot. I opened and cleaned batteries and connectors. Nothing.
1 out of about 18 lights is working.
They are in the sun the entire day.
just to see if they are working at all maybe try putting in regular batteries. thats to bad.
we bought a battery charger that charges small batteries and that worked.
i know its discouraging, we have thrown old ones out after messing with them, but ususally can get them to work for awhile.
Our solar lighting lasted 1 year. Aside from the batteries going dead, the fixtures became corroded and were easily knocked over. Now I just carry a small LED flashlight.
We use a light coating of lithium grease to keep the connections from corroding. It works pretty good. Of course this is heavy duty Military electronics. You may want to check radioshack or an auto parts store for a more residential electronics grease.
Well to be honest they didn't look very corroded at all.
So putting in a regular battery at night would be a good test I guess to see if they are just dead batteries?

for civilian (comerical) products look for "dielectric grease" it's dirt cheap & prevents corrosion as well as boosting conductivity a bit.

Yep, pretty easy /inexpensive test... & if it is the batteries just buy a few recharables of the same size & your good togo.
You cannot use 'regular' batteries - replace it with the same kind generally ni-cad rechargeable.
dielectric grease.(tu) I forgot what it was called.

just to test you can, but yes they should NOT be left in there, they don't take charging attempts well 😉
Thanks folks. A regular battery lit it up so Im out to purchase more nicads and some dielectric grease!
Yay dielectric grease! :@)
