Recent experience bringing a dog on the passenger ferry
Good Day,
I will be traveling to St. John with my dog who will be on the plane in a hard sided crate. Any recent experience with traveling to St. John from Red Hook on the passenger ferry? Does the dog need to remain in the crate? If not, will he need to be muzzled? We have a private taxi lined up and just need to confirm what’s needed for the next steps and looking for any recent experience.
Thanks!
Probably best to contact the ferry companies, directly.
Most people I know just take their pets back and forth in their cars or rental vehicles on the barges.
Pretty sure they'll require dog to be muzzled if not kept in crate.
Good luck.
STJ to Red Hook? That's a very short distance. I'd just ask around for a private boat to take me. All you need is a small speedboat, even a dinghy. For $50 I bet you'd have lots of takers.
You can't just show up with dog, kennel, luggage and ask around for a small speed boat to get out to STJ that'll just cost $50.
That's ridiculous, Nugblazer.
Traveling with large dogs is not simple.
Tracy2985, be sure to have the zip ties clipped off kennel when you get pup out of STT airport, let dog out of kennel to do business, give water, either put back in kennel or allow to ride in vehicle transporting you both. Don't bring any canned, wet dog food in luggage Dry only.
Keep leash in purse after dog, kennel, etc. has gone thru TSA
They make our take dog out of the kennel, check dog and kennel then you've got to have the door to kennel zip ties on 4 corners of door.
My 11 year old, 62 lb. girl will be making her 7th trip back to STT in January. I put 2 non skid rugs down in bottom of her kennel so she's not sliding around on the kennel floor TSA checks them, too
