Does anyone else get annoyed when you see them standing by the door?

Always did because they don't really check anything.

The receipt checkers are there so you don't go to your car empty the contents of your bags fold them go back inside and refill them again at the five finger discount. If your receipt is already checked bad boy, bad boy whacha going to do when the checker gets You!:-o

don't have a problem with it. If it stops thefts, it will keep the prices lower

Annoys me. I'm not in favor of any policy that treats honest people like crooks. Thefts at those stores don't generally go out the front, they go out the back

It doesn't bother me. It takes two seconds, and I'm not trying to steal anything, so why should I care? And yes, if it helps keep prices low, so much the better!

Thought you meant people who stand in the doorway while they check to see if they've been ripped off and block the way out. No problem w/receipt checkers here.

I don't mind them. I do chuckle often, however, since I usually take my cold bag into Cost-U-Less, put the items in and zip it up. They always take my receipt, glance at it and check it off. In most cases the checkers have a clear view of the register area, so they know you just came through the line, but not always.

At Kmart one day, I watched a young man come from somewhere within the store (meaning NOT the check out area), with a cart full of beach chairs, breeze right by the checker (in the wheelchair) and out the door. There must have been something else in the cart with one of those electronic tags. The alarms when off when he went through the door and nobody paid any attention at all. I thought the checker would call security or the manager, or somebody, but he didn't.

Could be the young man paid for them back at the electronics counter, or some other counter, but that seemed like a prime time to check a receipt to me.

Ice Water, I have seen them at Cost U Less, Price Smart, and K Mart. All they do is look at your reciept and make some sort of mark on it. I don't really know what the reasoning is for having them. They don't really bother me all that much. I see lots of odd, redundant and just plain useless stuff just like that here on island.

I've stopped using them. About two months ago I decided to only give them my receipt to initial if they asked for it. Guess what? They never, ever do.

Half the time, when I offer the receipt, they just wave me on. That's at Kmart. CUL always takes the receipt, and I don't see people walking past them like at KM.

Receipt checkers are there to protect the company from loss. It can be a bit frustrating if you are in a hurry, but a necessary evil to thwart theft in the retail industry. If THAT annoys you, wait until you have to deal with WAPA after a storm trying to get power restored! 😀

I wonder if you'd have trouble returning something with a receipt that had not been marked by a checker?

I don't see the reason for them, all they do is take the receipt and check it without looking at the cart. Most of the time they're hanging out at the exit gossiping with other coworkers.

Sometime ago at PriceSmart while I was heading towards the door, a gentleman approached the cart and stuck his foot in the wheel and asked for a receipt. I wasn't trying to avoid giving it to him. I thought it was disrespectful and was pretty livid.

Kmart and CUL also ask me for photo ID when I use a credit card, and they check that the two match, but they never look at my face. Kind of pointless. Somebody who has my wallet, and not just my credit card, could shop as me.
