Radio stations on the Islands?

I'd be curious to find out the radio situation on STT and STX. I found out about 104.3 the Buzz, which is a MUCH better rock station than most stations here on the mainland.

Just some general q's:

What is probably the most popular station(s) on the islands from what you hear in bars/stores/cars/etc?
Are FM stations from the British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico receivable on STT?
Also, what's the NPR situation on the islands? And is it popular?
Also, any other neat/interesting stations worth noting?

Probably a random question, but I was radio DJ before going into the hospitality industry...so I'm still a big radio geek.

Thanks,

Joe

St Croix has a radio legend, Roger W. Morgen, at 93.7.(I think?) He has been very visible recently with his Free Speech show in the morning.
Pirate radio- 96.1
WVWI AM 1000- for talk radio and sports. (highly recommended for newcomers to listen to the varieties of dialect as well as territorial concerns)
WSTA AM 1360 (ditto above)
NPR is at 107.3
There are a bunch or Puerto Rican stations, including the classical station, can't come up with the number right now.
Radio is a pretty big deal. At one time there was a station in Montserrat, the Gem of the Caribbean, kinda like XERB (without the Wolfman). You could hear it all over the Caribbean.

Okay, Roger W. Morgen is on 93.5. Had to check the pre-set in the car. And I hope I am spelling his name correctly!

Roger W. Morgan ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

He has all the corrupt politicians lowered to the level of calling all his listeners racist if they don't go along with whatever they say!!!!!!

His station even plays one bit from one of the senators saying that the people of STX should support their leaders, instead of the KKK!!!!! Then states that we should have consumer protection laws to govern the airwaves so people can't "just say what they want"........

So, getting a bit off the radio station thing for a minute here....

THESE ARE OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sworn to uphold the constitution!!!!!!!!

Perhaps this blog is next for "consumer protection" Thanks, I feel better now.

Thanks for the kind words! We're proud of our radio station and will continue to encourage ALL the people of these beautiful islands to speak up about the good, the bad, and the ugly. There isn't much "bad and ugly", but we can't sweep those things under the carpet. There's plenty of "good" here and these islands are just about as close to paradise as you can get.

Tune in to Paradise 93.5 FM and enjoy some of the greatest hits ever recorded plus 3 hours of great talk radio, "Free Speech, from 9am to noon each weekday. (Repeated 6-9pm each day.)

I am a 105.3 (105 JAMS) junkie and proud of it-Soca, reggae, hip hop, and RnB. I switch back and forth between this station and 90.5 (Isle 95) out of STX.

Roger:

I am a fan of your station, but I can only listen to it in my car. On the east end of STX I can't pick up a decent signal from your station even with radios that have external antennae.

When are you going to begin webcasting so I can listen to Free Speech all the time.

I was reading Roger's post and could hear him saying the words in my head. That distinctive voice does remain in your subconscious! Keep up the good work, Roger.

One of these days our "Emperors"/Senators will realize we can all see that they aren't wearing any clothes!

Alexandra,

LOL. When I first saw his name I questioned whether it was "the" Roger W. Morgan. But the writing style really leave no doubt, does it?

Welcome aboard.

LindaJ - I had the same thought until I read the post and it read just the way he talks. I guess one more lurker is out of the closet.

It also makes me wonder if some of the conversation threads on this message board have inspired some of the topics Roger has chosen to explore on his Free Speech talk show.

Good Morgan! It was only recently that I found this blog. Thanks again for the kind words and support. In answer to how you can listen to our program without a radio...you'll find a podcast on our website at www.paradise935fm.com and each day's program is posted shortly after the program ends at noon. Then, we re-broadcast Free Speech each evening between 6 and 9pm.

I was finally able to hear the presentation that Senator Juan Figueroa-Serville made recently on the floor of the Legislature in which he repeatedly referred to "Roger W. Morgan and his 'Klu' (sic) Klux Klan cronies". Someone called yesterday following my program and played the piece to me. Amazing!

So far as getting inspirations for programs from this blog...it hasn't happened so far, but you can bet that I'll be checking back often. Thanks again for taking the time to post your thoughts about the program.

Roger
