radio shack stx
i was not being mean sarcastic, but funny sarcastic
Kmart will be the next to go.
I once heard that the Kmarts in the USVI are the most profitable ones. I believe if they do close someone will come in to fill that market.
VI Kmarts are second only to Guam for profitability in the entire chain.......
Ive heard for years that WalMart has scoped out the VI, cant see that they wouldnt swoop in if KMart goes bye bye......
Sorry to hear about Radio Shack. They were my first employer. I started working for Radio Shack at 16 and worked for them through my freshman year in college.
Here's a article posted today in the Financial Post on the impending collapse of Sears and with it, Kmart:
I was at the Kmart last night to purchase a few things.
When I couldn't find what I was looking for, I asked a customer service person. She said, "the only inventory coming in to the VI now is from stores on the mainland that have been closed. After that runs out, nobody knows?"
The end must be near.
That's not good.
Hopefully Walmart or another big retailer picks up the pieces quickly.
I was at a Wal-Mart in Puerto Rico last weekend.
Such a refreshing retail experience.
I was told recently by our chamber of commerce that it's likely one of our STX Kmarts will close while the other remains open (didn't know which). For how long who knows.
"Puerto Rico has the highest concentration of both chains (Walmart & Walgreens) per square mile in all of the US and its territories. In the case of Walmart, Puerto Rico ranks first worldwide."
I never knew Walmart had that kind of presents in Puerto Rico. You would think, with so much Walmart cargo in the area, spreading to the VI would be fairly easy.

Most likely until all the inventory is depleted from mainland Kmart and Sears stores.

Its only a matter of time now. Walmart is likely just waiting for Kmart to vacate one of the spaces.
i hope the big k out west stays
Yet. Its an orderly wind down.
After looking over that list of K-Mart closings, I was shocked to see Arkansas had a K-Mart there still open.
I'd be thrilled if WalMart opened in the K-Mart west location. At least then when I take trips back to Arkansas I won't have to spend my time at WalMart as I usually do.
Has there been any solid evidence that Walmart is planning to open on STX??
Nothing public on Walmart that I'm aware of. Our chamber of commerce didn't have anything on it to share.

No. But since Walmart already has a huge distribution network set up 50 miles away in Puerto Rico, it would make total sense to fill the void that will be left when Kmart eventually closes. Its just speculation, but, someone will definitely move in when Kmart moves out.
