racial harmony on STT?
Hi there,
My hubby and I are planning to relocate to STT. I am a Black-American and my husband is Dutch-European. What kind of reception can we expect? As an island with predominately African descendants, but a significant amount of Euro expats, is there a good level of integration? How does the racial makeup play out economically within these groups?
Any honest answers greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The US Virgin Islands population is for the most part very open to inter-racial and inter-cultural relationships and marriages. Although the population is prominately of African descent - these people are Afro - Caribbean and in the Caribbean for the most part people are open to all people. Don't get me wrong - there are of course exceptions to this - however St. Thomas is not one of them. Your reception will be based on your personality and freindliness and not on your inter-racial/cultural marriage. There may be some that might look or whisper - but I think you will find this anywhere. I don't think you should worry about being harassed or discriminated against for your relationship; this is highly unlikely. I hope you enjoy your move.
