quitting smoking

Eastender has some good tips that worked for me. Except the cold turkey thing. I quit back in 1991. I cut down over time - stopped smoking in the apt. Then stopped smoking at work. Stopped smoking while drinking coffee or on the phone. Was down to about 3-5 cigs a day when i quit. I agree that getting out of the environment is key. First two weeks totally off i didn't go out to bars or restaurants with all our friends who of course smoked. Went back after that time and always made sure to have bar snacks in front of me. Yes I put on 10-15 lbs, but eventually took it all off with exercise. Great things - no more hacking up a lung in the AM. No more smelly fingers and clothes. No more nicotine stained teeth. you breathe much easier. Taste and smell are all much superior than they were. I quit many many times until it finally took. Just keep trying. I think I've had a cigarette or two on one very very drunken afternoon (thank you Norma at the Dominoe club) and promptly went home and puked. Worst I have ever felt. TRW - good luck. It is the hardest thing I've ever done, but also the best thing.
