We are moving to St. Croix in late November. We have heard that smokes are crazy expensive, and want to quit anyways. Did anyone else give up this terrible affliction when they moved down? Looking forward to seeing everyone real soon!

Sorry but cigarettes are very cheap, ranging in price from $12-$14/carton!

Just curious... why are they so cheap down there? and are they regular brands like in the states? (ie marlboro, camels, etc) or are they local brands? That catches me very off gaurd... i thought they would be ridiculous! Thanks for the info!!!

Somehow, I've managed to have only 1 cigarette in the two months I've been here. They are really cheap, it's true, so I thought I'd be smoking again in no time. I don't go to bars that often, so that probably explains how I've been able to keep from going back to my bad habit. Best of luck!

Sorry, but they are way cheap down here. My husband and I actually started smoking more since we've been here. I'm struggling to quit now, but it's not been easy.

The lower price is because the USVI are a duty-free port zone. Alcohol is inexpensive for the same reason.

"Cheap cigarettes" is only relative to your health and the cost of healthcare. I would encourage "IslandPilots" to keep working at quitting the habit as in the long run it is the cheapest choice! Here is to your health and success in beating the habit!

Well, I'll add a little caveat to this post, being a smoker and all!

The air here is still relatively pristine. Several years ago I was in a job position which entailed my going to NYC once a year. Notwithstanding that I couldn't smoke on the 'plane, I found it physically impossible to smoke in the city. The air was so befouled by toxic exhaust that, when I did sneak a smoke (after all, it IS an addiction) I coughed and hacked ad nauseum.

I would walk about 20 blocks back and forth every day on the upper East Side and the general pollution was horrible. I'd take a shower at night and the dirt in my hair and on my body would run off down the drain BROWN! That wasn't because of smoking, it was just because of the foul and horrible environment.

As much as I enjoyed my sorties into NYC, truly enjoying all that NYC has to offer - well, no wonder they've banned smoking there (and they're not alone!)

Actually, most locals don't smoke... I shall say no more!
