Questions Regarding BroadBandVI
After waiting a month (no joke) for Innovative DSL service, I signed up with BroadBandVI and was connected within a week. The speed is decent and tech support is responsive. Based on other poster’s comments, it’s probably the best on STX.
However, I am looking for a solution to these issues:
• Does anyone VPN using BroadBandVI? Using a Sprint or Verizon data card, there are no problems. It doesn’t seem to matter which PC is used or whether it’s it in front or behind the router. I called Bob at tech support and he said he’s not aware of any VPN issues with BroadBandVI.
• There seems to be a known issue with Netgear routers. When you are surfing the web, a page appears from time-to-time prompting you to reconnect.
I’d appreciate any solutions or workarounds that you may have. On the other hand, I’d be interested to know if there is no solution.
After using my Net Gear router for several months I had to replace it with a Belden. There were issues that all were solved when I replaced my router. I was constantly getting locked out and having to get Broadband VI to reset my service.
Try connecting directly without using your router and see if your VPN issues are eliminated. If they are then you need another router.

I have Broadband VI and a D-Link router, have no problems with my VPN
We had problems with our NetGear router, switched to Linksys and problems solved.
Thank you for the very quick responses. I feel a whole lot better that VPN is not an issue with BroadBandVI. That means the problem can be solved. Replacing the router is no big deal. I'm puzzled though that the VPN didn't work even when I plugged the Ethernet cable directly from the the radio amplifier into my laptop.
PS - For Sale: Netgear Router in excellent condition. Price: really cheap....
We had a Netgear router that was responsible for some VPN problems but we switched to a Linksys router and all is well.
HEY, speak English! lol
BroadBandVI called this afternoon and advised me that I will need a different antenna to enable VPN. They are sending someone out tomorrow to replace the current one. Might be useful to know if someone searches the archives in the future. I'm told that there aren't more than a handful that use VPN. Evidently some of those people are active posters here. 🙂
I do have to commend BroadBandVI for exceptional service.
Perhaps some antennas don't properly support VPN pass-through? In this sense, they may suffer from the same disease that Netgear routers have. I suspect the only reason BroadbandVI thinks only a handful of customers use VPN is that most of their antennas are of a kind that don't have this pass-through problem. We are on STT and got our antenna installed by Ackley, and Ackley/BroadbandVI has never had a reason to suspect we use VPN. Not that they couldn't tell if they wanted to look...
It never occured to me to mention needing VPN access with Broadband VI. No problems. For me I need VPM access to ge onto the server of my employer in Texas. I can also commend Broadband on their customer service . . . they were ready way before I was! Great service, no complaints at all.
