Very interesting board. I have had a good time looking at your conversations.

I am an Emergency Medicine physician in the midst of severe career-ending burnout (at age 35 how sad).

My girlfriend and I are looking forward to a two week vacation in the VI next week.

I am secretly hoping that we both fall in love with the place and move down.

Questions:

Any of you living in the VI a physician?

If not, any of you know one that I might email to get a "feel" for practicing medicine in the VI?

Anyone know about opportunities for doctors wanting to work there?

Are you islanders satisfied with the delivery of healthcare?

If any of you are lawyers/insurance agents/chiropractors, is there much of a personal injury/auto accident rehabilitation business???

Something must be going on in the world of emergency medicine. My son is getting to relocate to STT. He went to Paramedic school and works in a very busy ER - He has decide it is time to change locations and jobs. Good luck in your possible relocation to paradise

have a happy...

Healthcare is substandard here, IMHO. I'm sure the hospitals would welcome some stateside help. But, be prepared....they aren't going to change. Accept the 'way it's always been done' mentality here. Trying to change it is an exercise in futility, IMHO. Check it out when you come down. Might be just what you're looking for!

Call Dr. Thelma Watson, the chief of Medicine at the hospital 340-776-8311, ask the operator for the extension. Or just stop by when you are here. The ER is a busy. busy place and ER doctors are always welcome. The VI government doctors have a limit on their liability, which makes this a physician's paradise in some ways. Because of the relatively slow driving speeds, you are more likely to have GSW than MVA as cause of injury. Medical practice is different here. Come visit. Maybe it will make your burn-out burn up!

Hi all! My husband is a burned-out software engineer who is contemplating a change of career to the medical field. He had his California-specific EMT liscense, but let it lapse due to our impending move. Are there any EMT/Paramedic training facilities on STT or STX? And is there as much of a demand for those positions as for docs and nurses? Thanks for the help!

hi all--

my wife have worked at RLS as travelers for the past 2 yrs...me in the ER and my wife L&D. As RN's, the place is ok...but the docs...well that is a different story. Dr. Eric French is one of the Er docs..he would be a good contact for you. The ER sees ALOT of psych, IDDM, and HTN kinda stuff...goes along with the ethnic group of the island.

good luck with your search...by the way,the number to the er is 340-693-6214. good luck
