GOOD DAY ALL-- I am in the beginning phases of researching a possible watersports business in St. Thomas. The idea would be to have a shop setup on the beach with various rentals. To start, I will be focusing on Kiteboarding lessons and rentals, kayaks, jet-skis, wind-surfing, and private island excursions. I have ktieboarded for a number of years and would love to share my knowledge and get others into the sport. Anyway---few questions...

Is there much of a community on St. Thomas for kiting? I see there are a few local shops but last time I was down there I did not see anyone out riding.

I wanted to get in touch with the local hotels to work out a possible partnership but not sure which resorts have clear beach access??

If anyone out there has any contacts that might help the research on this please send them my way.

Much appreciated and Cheers!

windy:
First, have you ever been here to visit the various hotels and beaches? Most of them already have watersports concessionaires, and they have been in place for many years.
Second, there is a very good kite boarding business- West Indies Windsurfing. As you know, it is a fairly expensive sport and requires a level of fitness. Not so many vacationers looking for such punishment. 😀
Third, you will run into opposition if you try to include jet-skis in your proposal. Some people feel they should never have been allowed on this island and that there are too many here already. Jet-skis and dolphin prisons will get you some flamin'! 😉
