Question why did Hard Rock closed?
I remember always being full? what happen
Not enough income...the rent was outrageous, and you have to sell LOTS of T-shirts to cover that! Wendy's went in after HR closed..
And even Wendy's couldn't make it...
Marty's right. Rent was too high. Since they've left, the other shops in International Plaza have suffered.
GREED...
My contribution for the day is that greed and stupidity are the reasons for most of the problems in (the Vi, the USA, the world...) take your pick.
If only landlords charged a fair price...if only oil companies did not gouge us all...if only our government was honest and fair...if only corporate giants paid their CEO's a reasonable wage...if only Bush and Cheney did not send our children off to die in Iraq...If only...(ok you can fill in the blank)
I guess you can tell I didn't have a great day today.
I'll put my choppers under my pillow tonight and hope the 'if only' fairy brings me some new ones:)
Think the rent for HR was too much? Try some of the jewelry stores bills...they go up to $60K/MONTH!!!
As an aside, it seems that stateside interests decide to expand here with very little understanding of the local work ethic. For example, I have heard that there is a chain restaurant that is bringing down waitresses from the states. Personally, I would like to see fewer franchises, as they seem all to have the same food and it all tastes the same. But I guess people like familiarity. Go figure.
They're BRINGING IN waitresses??? How silly is that? I mean, I understand about Hooters bringing some of their top waitresses down for a short time, but bringing down their own waitresses? Sounds just about silly enough to be true here! Sheesh!
I've heard the location of the Hard Rock wasn't the best. Not easy to find etc.
The Hard Rock was almost dead center on the waterfront on 2 stories - the amount of people who could not find it must have been quite low.
When I am on vacation, I will make lots of effort to avoid chains. Why travel to a new local to eat the exact same stuff you can eat back home? About the only time I will go to a chain is when I am in a hurry to get somewhere else, like on an interstate.
Why go to a seaside town anywhere and eat at Red Lobster?
And if your food is mediocre and you can't get the locals to come back, you then must be able to survive on the onetime visitor.
I used to agree with heepajeep completely. But now, when we go to the states, part of the fun is eating at some of the chains that were old favorites, like Olive Garden and Red Lobster (although I admit, I was very disappointed in RL the last time). We always try to work in a Taco Bell or a Burger King, something like that. If we're on a road trip, there has to be a Cracker Barrel. But we still enjoy the local cuisine too. For instance, it is impossible to get in and out of the state of North Carolina without at least one trip to Parker's BBQ!
I have to say I was very disappointed that Hard Rock was no longer. I saw it as a large attraction for the followers. That said, I rarely ever went myself! I like to hear the person I am with, let alone to hear what I am thinkin'! lol!
As for Hooters, we can live without it. I will go once as I have never been, but Tickles it is for us!
