Question about crime and breezes.
Good day!
We are doing the pre-planning for a possible move to STT in the future.
Which part of the island has the lowest crime rate (and the highest), and which part of the island has the best breeze?
Thanks! 😎
The highest places has the best breezes.
I'd say North side is the safest area.
you want a truthful no BS answer?
crime is all over each island, in different capacities and at random times.
the best thing for anyone going to the VI, to live, is to be aware of your surroundings and not only that, but know the 'why's, who's & how's' of VI crime.
Does the VI have gun crime? Yes, for the most part it is contained amongst the local warring factions and almost exclusively related to drug trafficking of some sort.
Does the VI have a high theft-occurrence rate? It sure does, in fact i'd be willing to bet that it is higher than anywhere in the continental united states.
You have 'ghetto-based' crimes....crimes commited by poor folk against other poor folk, the both of whom are just trying to make it.
You have robberies of dwellings while home owners are at work, seemingly a never-resolved issue.
best advice, dont be flashy. stick to well traveled routes. dont make yourself an easy-mark or even worse, easy prey.
dont leave valuable in cars 1,000 some-odd feet away from the beach. you will be robbed.
on a positive note...there is a greater chance of you not being a victim of violent crime than being one.
Since we lie in the path of the tradewinds, there is always a constant breeze...5-10 knots, slightly stronger in the higher areas...I've been here for 14 years, lived at Four Corners for 1.5 years, Wintberg for 8.5 years and Frenchman's Bay for 4 years...never had any problems with crime...not against me, nor my property. Just use your head...don't go down a dark alley at 2 am looking for crack and you probably won't have any trouble....if you start to get nervous in an area, it's probably best to leave that area.
