This can't help the problem with people dumping on the side of the road.
Everywhere else in the world that I've lived property taxes support waste disposal. This is going create a huge problem with dumping in the guts and bush.
Everybody concerned should attend the public meetings to express their concerns. It's really sad that when these meetings are held there's usually only a mere handful of people showing up to ask questions but a slew of criticism after the fact when the proposed changes are implemented. Time constraints aren't an excuse either. The meetings in this case are scheduled for 3PM but you can arrange to join in right after work.

I pay $20/year as a line item in my county property tax bill for my house in NC for residential waste reduction. That covers use of the trash convenience centers which are only allowed to be used for non-commercial trash and recycling and I don't have any trash pickup. There are tipping fees for commercial trash of course at the landfills as there should be. Too bad I won't be on island for this meeting.
6 people apparently showed up at the St John public hearing yesterday.

The STT meeting is today and the STX meeting is tomorrow.
Enough said.
Bombi said it best.....we are already paying taxes....
Old Tart....you are right....we need people to show up and comment!!
I'm hoping to go to the meeting but my sister is being released from hospital today after having surgery and have no idea as yet of time of release and we must get her back over to STJ. Are you going OT? Anyone else?
Combination of physical limitations and lack of wheels (the former the greater issue) prohibit my going but I know of one person planning to go with whom I've chatted. Hopefully the turnout will be decent but I'm not overly optimistic.
