prospective University of VI STT or STX student
Our 17-yr-old son is considering UVI for college. He is interested in the science fields for medical school. I understand that UVI STT has most of the science programs. We were hoping to relocate to STX. Does anyone have any experience or input for either?
Our next visit is in Oct. We plan to visit both.
Have you looked into this program.

Thank you! Yes, that looks like a wonderful opportunity. It doesn't really specify which campus, which is our dilemma. If he can get the classes that he needs in STX or if we need to live on STT. All of my focus has been on STX. Also, trying to find out what college life is like on the islands.
I know that the early entry program is available on St. Thomas. We have a relative who graduated from UVI (STT) in Marine Sciences and went on for a Ph.D.stateside. They cited the small classes and access to professors as positives. One problem was the drug and drinking culture which washed out several classmates before graduation.
I can't tell you much about UVI on St Croix, but my feeling is that it is more of an Ag school. That may be totally wrong.
Thanks for the info! That's disappointing to hear about the drugs/alcohol. That is a fear I have for him at any university.
You on STX and him on STT might just be the perfect amount of distance. Close enough that he can come home affordably ($100 r/t on the ferry) but far enough that he won't bring you his laundry every weekend;).
