Primaries & Caucuses in the USVI
Does anyone have a link to the history of how the Republican and Democrat Caucuses voted in 2000 and 2004?
I've been looking all over, but as usual, I can only find webpages with the VI in the footnotes with no stats.
Thanks!
I thought that USVI residents could not vote for President. Am I wrong?
Terry,
The Democratic and Republican parties allow delegates from the USVI and other territories of the US to vote.
This is for party nominations only. Registered Citizens of the USVI can't vote for the office of President of the US.
now if we can just get all the Democrats from the states to move to the USVI's...lol...
I was thinking just the contrary, Charlotte. Just goes to show that the USVI, while unique, is just like the rest of America. The question for me is how much? I saw that there were 3 elected delagates per party and 6 superdelagates. I'm curious to see what stripe of Democrat and what stripe of Republican represented the USVI at the conventions. Were they liberal, moderate, or conservative on economy, social issues, etc.
For example, New Hampshire and Iowa may both vote Republican in the general election, but Iowa is very conservative and New Hampshire is moderate to liberal on social issues, but they may both identify themselves as fiscally conservative and vote for the same candidate. I'm trying to use the previous USVI delagate votes and the current one coming up to extrapolate the types of Democrats and types of Republicans that live in the Virgin Islands, if there is in fact any indication.

The VI is totally Democrat. You can count the Republicans on your fingers and toes.
