Pre-PMV Questions...
My wife and I (as well as our three teenagers) have been researching a move to the USVI’s for over a year and a half now and without a doubt have settled on STX. Just booked tickets for the end of April for a pre-PMV (meaning just the wife and me… sorry kids!). If all goes well… we’ll be back with the kids for a longer PMV sometime after that.
He goes the first round of pre-PMV questions…
We would like to talk to a realtor and see a few properties while on STX. Can anyone recommend a realtor that would work well with a family?
Which hotel in or near Christiansted would you recommend? One with good amenities but would make a good home base to come back to after spending the day exploring and fact finding?
One last question for now… Best place to rent a car on STX?
Look forward to hearing from everyone!
Thank you!
the buccaneer is a very nice hotel only minutes out of christiansted. it is pricey but would make a good home base.
you can rent a car from the airport. not sure of cost. you can find a viphonebook online.
there are a lot of considerations when planning a move, especially with teenagers.
please come bak for lots more questions and continue reading this board
There is a small but very nice inexpensive hotel near salt river, Arawak Inn maybe, at least I know I have the Arawak part right. The Buccaneer would be great, but it is a little pricy.
I highly recommend Judi of Croix for car rental.
The Hodge sisters at Blue Sky Realty (340) 719-1409
Incredible pragmatism, will place you for your needs over their inventory
Can anyone comment on The Palms at Pelican Cove
The Buccaneer, Carambola, Carrington's & Arawak where all on our list of possible places.
divinggirl... I have seen Judi of Croix mentions before and they are local... I like that. We're going to give them a try... Thanks!
Linda J... Thanks!... We looked it up. Arawak Bay. We moved it to our short list.
MissJustice... Going to checkout the sisters at Blue Sky next... I believe I have been to there website.
Speee1dy... Our teenagers are 18, 17, 13 and are excited about the prospect of moving to St. Croix. My 18yo is a Sr and we are hoping that UVI would be a good fit for her along with a part-time job. The 17yo is a Soph and plays soccer and does really well academically... my wallet is wanting a small college or university for him as well but he has aspirations for Michigan or Florida State. My youngest is in 7th grade and falls in the autism spectrum... he is high functioning and high IQ... so its hard to tell he is even on the spectrum. A good pediatrician could take care of any medical needs he may have. We are thinking life on St. Croix would probably be good for him. We are of course worried for them socially. It's a tough age to be moving... but they are all for this move. I know I will have more questions regarding areas that would concern them... I will be sure to post them as they come up.
The Palms is a great place. The property is beautiful, the beach is amazing and the rooms are nice. They have a restaurant on site and it is in a great location to get to town & stores.
End of April is still considered by some to be "high season" which means higher costs for accommodations for the same place than at the beginning of May which starts our slow season. Some places may have lower rates starting Apr. 15th, however so you need to check when off-season rates begin. You may also want to check your options on www.vrbo.com or www.flipkey.com for weekly/monthly vacation rentals by owners. Good Luck.
A second vote for Judy of Croix. We use them every time we are on island.
Hopefully, soon we'll be buying a car though!
You can also look into vacation rentals rather than hotels. They can end up being a great buy and also give you a bit of a better idea what life is like on the island PMV wise. Go food shopping. Cook some meals etc..
Tamarind Reef Resort. Beautiful, clean rooms and a friendly staff.
I will second or third Palms at Pelican Cove. On a great beach, with a good restaurant , about a five minute drive to Christiansted and located in a very local residential neighborhood.
I like judys of st Croix but centerline rental also a local owner typically offers better rates for the same service and vehicles.
Enjoy your stay!
Second Centerline Car rentals. Clean NEW vehicles and great service.
I used centerline every time we go and never have a problem, now they have an office in the airport, prices are very reasonable.

I always stay at the Carringtons... I've stayed there over 10 times now...
It is peaceful, a great view, and you have all the privacy in the world... Since there are only 5 rooms it is never crowded... It is just about 4 minutes from downtown... There is no issue with cellphone signal strenght... It does have Wi-Fi...
It is not like a hotel... Mind you, the rooms do not have TV... However, there is a TV in the common area...
Thanks for the feedback on The Palms everyone! Rowdy802... Thanks for the feedback on Carringtons! Don't think I can go wrong with any of them. I'm going to do some comparing between Judi and Centerline for sure. MissJustice recommended Blue Sky Reality... which looks like a good prospect... Does anyone have any other recommendations for realtors?
We use Tammy Londer and Amy Land De Wilde from Coldwell Banker - highly recommend, very knowledgeable and professional.
I may also add Villa Margarita to the list of possible places to stay... (340) 713-1930...
I've never stayed there but I do hear good things about it...
We used Kim Lucas , she is very nice also and I know she can help you ..
