Pre-move visit questions…
All:
Wife and I are retiring to our home on STT in May of 2023. We’d like to visit STT a month or so beforehand, to get a bank account, drivers licenses transferred, P.O. Box set up and the like. Is that possible when we’re still technically residents of the mainland? Anything else we should do? Are there storage units on STT that I can fit a Land Rover in? Ideally we’d meet it there and then store it until we move. If that’s the plan, we’d need someone to pick it up at the docks and get it inspected and registered. I hear there are outfits/individuals that offer such services?
Thanks in advance.
Paul.
Contact Boynes Trucking to have them clear your car and handle all of the road readiness for your vehicle. You can go online with BMV and make appointments for getting your drivers licenses. You also see all of the documentation required for that process on their website. If you have utility bills with (both) your name and physical address on them that will work. If you don’t, get those now. You’ll need that for your drivers licenses. Also your current valid drivers license, medical form, and driving record from the state your valid licenses are from. Check the website for the details. And be patient. It’s not unusual for these tasks to take time and several trips.
I wouldn't worry about your DL until you move here. There's no rush on that as I know people that have lived here for 10 years and still have their stateside license. It's a simple process, make an appointment online, wait several months for the appointment (times may be better now as that was a year ago I made mine) Passport, copy of deed, wapa bill, dl record from home state and wait another 2-3 months for no call and when your temp is close to being expired, go to the office to check to see if it's been printed. They say they'll call you when it's ready, they won't. LOL
If you have a home, why are you looking to store your vehicle, why not leave it at your house?
PO Box simple, copy of wapa bill or deed showing some type of residence here, fill out the application and you will have it in a few days as they tend to wait to change the locks until someone orders a new box.
@daveb722 Can’t leave the car at the house because it’s rented out.
Try Fortress storage up behind the hosital.
The are different mail services available on island at different locations if you can't get a box at the one of the U.S Post Offices. Sometimes there's a waiting period.
You'll need your vehicle's title to get your car registered.

Can you put a 20 ft container on property as a garage?
@exit-zero Containers are super expensive right now, i paid 1700 for a used 20' one 2 years ago, i heard they at least double now in price.
@exit-zero Sadly not, too hilly. Bit of an eyesore anyway…

I can’t find Boynes trucking anywhere? Do they do business under a different name?
