Have you gone through all the information in the drop-down menus top of this page? There's a ton of information there.

General Answers
What are the schools like? - Vary
How do taxes work? - You pay the VI Government. If you overpay it takes time to get your refund
How does healthcare work!?
Best islands to live if you want to open up a small business? - Depends on the business.
BEST ISLAND FOR SCUBA. That's for me - Opinions vary, IMO STX
Shipping cost? - Depends on what
OT & I arent going to be holding hands and singing kumbaya, anytime soon, but in this case she's correct. I have a feeling you want specific answers to general questions. Reading a bit and being to ask a little more specific question would probably get you the answer you desire
For example on your school questions
Public Vs Private
Costs
Extra Curricular activities
Etc
YMMV

I agree that reading the posts is a good idea. I read every drop down b4 I made a post. But it's nice to know there's real people out there answeeing, carrying on conversations and best of all, making new friends. I've met and emailed privately with sooooo many great people.
You just don't get a warm fuzzy feeling when someone would rather take the time to answer by telling you to go somewhere else. But only one person does that mostly.
On the other hand, this person also has some very good advice. Just gotta catch the good mood.
Or, could be Just me, I suppose.

FYI, I've been providing detailed information on this forum for well over 10 years and for over 30 years in general to prospective newcomers. Also FYI, many newcomers to this forum come to it via a link from another general source and simply are unaware that there's a vast amount of information in the drop-down menus. Contrary to your assumption, I read posts carefully and mostly answer questions being asked. However, it's sometimes clear from a first poster's questions that they don't know about all that information and are happy to be guided there.
Don with all due respect, it's not personal and you will "get it" once your moved and lived here a while. No one os forcing us to answer the same questions over and over but it does get old. I mean literally answering the questions that's are on page 1. Lol.
PLEASE don't take that personally it's not, you asked pretty broad questions that have been covered many many times over and easily searchable. That is why OT posted that.
Lastly most of your questions are more opinion based answers and are pretty subjective.
Ok. Point taken. I'll give ya the win today.
But at least say "Hi !!! Welcome to MY forum".
It says you registered just 4 yrs ago so I didn't know about the 10 yrs. Also, I didn't really care. But thanks.
The rules say don't "solely" reply........
People wanna feel welcomed. You make me feel like I'm not welcome. Luckily, I don't care. But some may take it wrong is all.
Why don't you just skip the questions you don't want to answer?
Nothing personal, but there are other people who will answer.
However, I do agree that everyone should go through ALL the drop down first. If you get tired of it, then just keep on truckin.
Thanks
dom, try not to take that particular person too personally. that poster gets their feathers ruffled many many times, but then says the other person she chooses to argue with is taking things personally.
try to just take that poster with a grain of salt. i think they like to argue and get the last word in. not saying i dont either, but i usually bite my tongue
I hadn't seen the top drop down boxes so your response was helpful I have gone through it and found a bunch of needed info so thank you.
That's good - a lot of people new to the forum miss it. It'll get you off to a good start and then you can delve into specifics via the search engine and, of course, ask away if you can't find answers to questions. There are some very helpful contributors here from all three main islands. 😀
The information available on the drop down menus is extensive and would really help new forum questioners distill their particular queries or misconceptions - I feel that informing newer posters that ask super general questions about the options available that they obviously have not looked at is useful, despite how curt the tone seems. Someone who is really doing research about a move to the USVI will have no problem spending the time perusing that info and then asking for personal responses to specific issues more relevant to their individual concerns. It is rare that serious posters ask for info that has been covered in the forum many times.
We, especially the respondents who have lived here, currently or in the past, usually have a wealth of experience that easily translates into helpful advice and I often learn bits and pieces of local hints that surprise me even after over 4 decades of STT life. One of the biggest advantages I notice is that when newly arrived residents ask for help the response is usually overwhelmingly useful - that is fairly typical of the general community in the islands as well, we have all been through the trials of the newly arrived and helping to smooth the bumps-- which occur to all of us anyway no matter how long we live here -- is the norm in many conversations we all have on a daily basis.
I don't think informing new posters of the drop down menus has to be considered rude and unfriendly but simply the 1st step any serious person would be be glad to be made aware of.

I found ton's of stuff on the drop down menus to help me narrow down my questions. It's worked really well.
And I've got great answers to my very specific questions too. I agree with the feds and a boot on the backside. They need me yesterday. I found out for sure last Wednesday. I fly down May 1,10 days! I start work May 2. My new boss is coming over from PR to get the work aspect going. I ordered the settler's package from this website, and had to call to have them ship it to my office after I placed the order cause I'm reporting so fast.
I fortunately have a relocation package so will stay in a hotel for at least a first few nights, then temp quarters somewhere (gotten some fabulous leads here) until I find the place right for me. My stuff isn't even being shipped until June 9, and I want to have an idea what I actually want to bring.
I haven't even caught my breath, but the key is research, research, research. I'll be already to hit the ground running to start the relocation search. Good luck, seems like a lot of us doing similar things. Better do it fast before the federal government runs out of money as they do every October.
