Positive Virgin Island News

ST CROIX. WAPA AND TOSHIBA BROKE GROUND ON 4MW SOLAR POWER PROJECT ON 17 AUG 2013
----COST TO GOVERNMENT-----------------ZERO, AS TOSHIBA AND THE FINANCIAL PARTNERS WILL PROVIDE THE CAPITAL FUNDS TO CONSTRUCT THE 18-ACRE PLANT AND TOSHIBA WILL MAINTAIN THE PLANT.
We need more deals like this for our Energy Solution----Renewable Energy, No capital Investment By VI Government, Contractor to build and maintain for 20 years and sell energy to WAPA.
We have to assume no loopholes in the contract in cost to sell power to the government, its a win deal for the residents of USVI(ie Puerto Rico has been signing deals like this for the last3-5 years, time we start catching up and pass Puerto Rico---their rate is .31 KWH).
I post this information for the many off-islanders who don't have access to the local papers and local media here in the USVI. A lot of negative posting(not always factual) about what's happening in USVI, here is some positive,

Wow! This is great news!
This is great news and step in the right direciton. We were driving to the airport the other day and noticed all the bulldozing kitty corner from the Captain Morgans Rum factory.
I was hoping it was a Burger King or Dairy Queen. But I'll take the solar power factory as long as it lowers WAPA costs.
I have to wonder if the savings will be passed on to the customers.
Most likely the savings will NOT be passed on to the customers. I have zero faith in anything WAPA does or says.
i am with island joan
While I am happy that a project that will have more than 800 panels installed in the field that will integrate approximately 4MW of solar energy into the island’s electrical grid, and, hopefully, will help lower WAPA costs, I have to wonder, indeed, at what price or cost.
The persons that have negotiated deals in the past and the senators and our Governor(s) have not been know to do so with OUR best interest in mind so it shall be interesting to see how this plays out, in the long run.
I shall hope for the best and reserve judgment after decades of disappointment with decisions made by our leaders and their so-called ad visors. Unfortunately, my first instinct is to ask "Who will actually benefit from this deal, what are the long term ramifications and entitlements and who actually gains the most?"
So much for posting some optimistic news.
"It's a beautiful morning this morning!"
"Yeah, but it'll probably rain later on."
"I just baked an awesome cake!"
"Yeah, probably collapse while it's cooling."
Positive news from WAPA will only come in the form of reduced monthly electricity bills.
Anything short of that is just more WAPA bulls**t.
