First, What is the general impression of the police department on the islands? Would an experienced police officer from the mainland have a chance at getting a job with them? Are there poisonous snakes? Would it be worth while to bring a 1994 Isuzu Rodeo 4x4 that is in perfect working order, or should it be sold and a vehicle bought over there? The Rodeo was completely made in Indiana, so it is considered American made and assembled. Also, what would be an average shipping cost to ship the Rodeo from Florida east coast? appreciate the help with these questions.

Hello Gene...
One of the local newspapers recently ran a series of stories about the local police department, wherein many residents were interviewed. There seemed to be general dissatisfaction with the police department, and you must be aware that this is an ongoing problem. There are outstanding police officers in the community, but there is a need for more police officers. We have a number of societal issues that require a strong police presence. It would be definitely worth the effort to check into the possibility of employment. I believe there is a recruiting drive going on now for more police officers.
There are no poisonous snakes in the VI...in fact, there may be no snakes at all due to our large mongoose population.
It is imperative that you have a sound vehicle if you want to live here. You will need to be much more self-sufficient than you are on the mainland, and a properly working vehicle is a large part of that. You may not be able to speedily acquire parts and service as you would on the mainland.
I don't know about shipping costs etc,. maybe another poster can address these...Marty??
