PO Box
Hello, good evening. I'm new to the message board but have been reading everything I can regarding relocating to USVI. I've notice the process of moving includes getting a PO Box for so many people. I'm curious, why are PO Boxes so popular? My husband is a USPS letter carrier and put in for a transfer to St Thomas, we recently learned he is 1st or 2nd inline. Exciting but at the same time overwhelming. Still waiting to learn if he's elgible for a full time position. The post office hasn't been able to provide any additional information at this time, except they are in the prescreening process. So as a local what are your thoughts of your local post office as a work environment? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
PO Boxes are popular, because currently there isn't a proper street addressing system in the islands. However, the street addressing situation is currently being addressed by the government and maybe in about another 5yrs we'll have a proper street address system.
Some people do receive mail at their homes, but the majority do not.
Yeah I've had stateside friends ask me what street I lived on, and I had to explain that the street I lived on did not have a name, and my house had a number related to the area - number dash number Frenchmans Bay. We did not have a PO box or a mail box immediately outside the house, but there was a set of mail boxes in the center of the area of Frenchmans Bay, next to the entrance for Limetree, on the main road.
