Po Box or what?
@#$%& bars ...haha. I think I translated that properly. I am from Houston too.
I hope you get your gun back. We see people printing a lot and then bring up guns and BLAM not in hippyville anymore. It doesn't seem like it is too hard to get a license here. Not as hard as getting your mail at least.
we live in what some refer to as 'the country' on stx, but we have mail delivery to our rural-type mailbox at the end of our driveway. We have a 'post-office approved' address, that works for ordering items to be delivered, but it is a different address than the one we used for years and years. Home mail delivery is not common on the island though. Issue sometimes with packages, but we've worked it our with our mail carriers so they usually bring out our packages and will leave them if someone is home. No charge for this, just like in the states.
The neighborhood has some of the "gang" post office mailboxes in the area, usually near a main intersection and residents can get a box without any charge other than the key deposit. You have to speak to the mailman or the post office, and they will assign you a box # that is available. In other years there might not be a box available in a given location, but with all the folks having left island there are boxes in our neighborhood pretty much all the time...but you need to be living in the area to get one.
biggiebig, 90% of the stuff posted here are things that have happened so no it is not bs.
and did you say you brought down your gun on the plane with you? really. you were supposed to mail it to a shooting range until you could get your home permit.or was that part of the 90% that you thought was bs
sandlers, not just anybody can get a carry conceal and it has been known to take about 6 months for home permit to come through. they are also thinking about making mandatory to get a psych evaluation,
it is not that it is hard to get one necessarily, more like so time consuming
This is what biggiesbigs wrote: as soon as I got off the plane and entered into the terminal area, I see a sign that says "must declare firearms" to police dept. within 24 hrs. I actually felt my heart sink and started second guessing whether or not I made the right decision to accept this job and move down here. I remember saying to myself, "this is downtown Beirut". "Oh @#$%&".
Nowhere did he/she say that he brought a gun, or had it taken away. I think he was just expressing his initial alarm at seeing the sign. Then he went on to say that things improved quickly after that.
i guess i did read that incorrectly-not that that is the first time that has happened. lol

Is it reliable to send packages general delivery (before moving, for example)?
you could always have them sent to the mail box store they charge per package, i think.
My (our) personal experience, as a newbie couple on the island (STX) has been to get a PO Box for most regular mail and some packages then our neighbor, who has a small business, has offered to allow us to ship packages to his address that can’t be delivered to the Post Office. People have been extremely understanding and helpful when it comes to shipping things to the island. I’m a big user of Amazon and have discovered that more than half of what I buy can ship to our PO Box and there’s no real difference in shipping cost between the PO Box or our neighbors business address. Shipping costs seem to be consistently between $10 and $30 when using Amazon.
