PO Box Mail Pick-up and Forward Service
Does anyone know of a service on STT that will pick-up mail from a PO Box at the Frenchtown PO and forward it to the states?
If it is for you, dnt, I'll be your huckleberry... 😎
The post office won't forward it?
There is a guy that has a business right there next to the PO in Frenchtown. It's called To Tortola and Back. He does it for the BVI. I don't see much difference in just doing it to the states?
Hey Huckleberry!
I appreciate your kind offer but I'm looking to hire someone to check my box weekly and forward my mail to me while I'm off island for a bit. I don't want to close the box and switch to a service like the one at Crown Bay or in Red Hook because as you know, I expect this off island business to be of fairly limited duration. We'll see. In any case, I'm surprised you still have time to read the boards given your current onerous socialization responsibilities - HA!
Ronnie,
Thanks for the tip; I'll look for his office later this week.
I'm not sure I understand your need for a separate service. You can do USPS mail forwarding online for free for any temporary period up to 12 months (6 months at a time and then you need to renew) or for a permanent change.
Take a look at this: https://moversguide.usps.com/?referral=USPS
Alternately you can even arrange a 'hold' on your mail: https://holdmail.usps.com/duns/HoldMail.jsp
I want a local service for several reasons. I will be coming and going with some frequency and want to be able to start and stop forwarding at will. Also, the local USPS has problems (I'm still waiting on packages sent to me Priority Mail at the beginning of February) and I don't want to add an additional layer of local USPS service wherein my mail can get lost. Lastly, the disclosure for using the USPS forwarding service states that my forwarding information can be feely shared with government agencies (Board of Elections, IRS, etc.) and that's an extra headache I don't need.
I am pretty sure when I rented my PO box in STX that the application required me to identify anyone authorized to pick up mail for my box.
I added my boyfriend's name so he could pick up the mail if needed but he if I wanted him to be a co-renter he would have needed to sign the application and present his proof of ID and address in person. Not sure how they will treat him if he shows up to pick up packages that do not fit in the box . . . my bet is they will give him a hard time and probably not turn over the goods.
That said, I am not sure there would be a service available to do what you are asking. I would think you would need to identify a particular person.
Thanks for the tip about packages and ID. Interestingly, nobody in my family has ever been asked for ID to pick-up a parcel for which they have a slip. I don't plan to have any packages sent to me when I'm off island so hopefully that won't be an issue. I just want to hire someone to use one of my box keys to check my mail weekly and forward it to me. If I can't make it work I'll have to close the PO Box and use a mail service like the one at Crown Bay Marina. I'm going to check Ronnie's suggestion on Friday and will post what I find out in case someone else needs to do this at some point.
you might try one of the runner/messenger/courier people. i know I would certainly be happy if the man who used to do the service for my employer was doing it--very reliable. You could probably give the person a bunch of already addresses Priority envelopes etc and have then pick up and mail once a week.. He used to do lots of things for lots of folks.
I know that in Gallows Bay PO I wound up "splitting" my po box with a girlfriend. It works out great for us both as she didn't have to get her own and I don't have to stand in line or remember to check it all the time. (I inherited my father's box in C'sted when he passed)
Nobody at either PO has ever asked for ID, just the usual "How's Mama?" in town or "what are the lunch specials?" in Gallows Bay.:D
