PMV in July?
We are coming down this summer to make our final decision about whether to move to STT or STX. We're considering a trip that would include the 4th of July.
We currently live near DC where a visit during a federal holiday would give you an unrealistic experience of what the area is like (our crazy horrible traffic wouldn't be there, you probably could find a parking spot in the city, etc).
Would visiting STT during a holiday like the 4th of July still give us a realistic experience of real life in STT?
Everyone will be over on St John for Festival, so it will be less crowded! 😉 The biggest problem will be the number of offices and services closed for the 3rd (Emancipation Day) and the 4th- government, banks etc.
East Ender has it right. July 4th this year falls on a Wednesday and I'd also add that unless our new Governor can in short shrift change long-practised abuse of government worker's time, not much government business will be done on either Monday or Tuesday (Emancipation Day as East Ender said, which is a "local" holiday) and then not much more on Thursday or Friday - of course forget the weekends!
Watch out for banking hours too. They get screwy over every holiday. Check the local Daily News closer to the date to see what will be open and what will be closed. I don't have the website right here but if you google "Virgin Islands Daily News" you'll find it right away.
If you need any more info, just ask. Cheers!
American independence day is not much celebrated on STT. St. John does indeed have its festival going on at that time, so STT will be a bit quieter than usual, probably, except for the ferry dock and Redhook area, which will be packed with people going back and forth for the festival.
