Pleasure boating in St Croix
I went to South Africa last year, False Bay - to see the great whites for my birthday. Magnificent. Saw for two smaller ones a 10 footer and then a big 14 foot female she was so big around I couldn't believe it. They are such amazing animals - so cautious, nothing like they've been made out to be. I also have been to the Bahamas a few times to see tigers and Bulls however I have still never seen hammerhead. My old boss saw one east end a couple months back 10footer.
Someday Australia to many places I wanna see first. Mainly because I have a feeling I'll love it and want to move there lol.
Wow, someone is a little touchy...lol.
Look, my point was not to disagree with you AandA nor was it to get in heated debate.
Yes, I agree and did so in my post above that there are more fish in STT. I am an avid Freediver, and also blow bubbles when I feel the urge for extended bottom time. A family member of mine has been running a dive business in STT for 30+ years and he has expressed to me his own observations on the degradation of the marine environment there. I am very passionate about the ocean, words cannot describe my love and devotion to water, particularly the salty kind. So we have something in common there 🙂
I have lived on STT, Tortola, Kauai, STX and am well traveled to other tropical regions. I studied Marine Environmental Science so I also look at things in a big picture kind of way. That is why I tried to point out the bathymetrical and geogpraphical differences between STT and STX which does effect coral growth, fisheries, and anthropogenic impacts on the ocean. I also tried to point out some aspects of the types of marine organisms one may encounter on STX vs STT.
Like I said above and tried to do so in a polite way by saying "with all due repsect", it would be great if your posts could be more positive like they were when you lived on STT. You say that you didn't want to move here, well ok, but maybe that thought process that you hold onto has affected St. Croix's willingness to accept you. Or maybe you don't want to be accepted and that is the problem. There are frustrating things and people no matter where you live. It's how you deal with it that reflects on your own strength of character. But coming on a forum and complaining is not going to change anything, and I think most people would agree that reading positive posts are more enjoyable than negative. You have a right to post whatever you want just like I have a right to say whoa, try to be more positive. Do what you want with that...
I have never experienced the STT hatred you speak of. I am aware of the animosity but that's common in many island nations. Heck its even common in the good ol US of A. My wife is a Thomain and loves living on St. Croix for a multitude of reasons. She vocalizes her Thomain roots to Crucians all the time and if anything gains more respect because they realize she is a native VI gyal and not a transplant.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your time on STX and maybe just maybe, when you move back to STT you will be able to reflect on your time here and see some positives.
Well said Matt.
I consistently rave about the food, the diving, partying at dog until 2am and some of the other great experiences I've had here. The lack of traffic is awesome also and the roads aw better! Perhaps you're the one dwelling on only my negative comments? I don't recall you jumping on anyone else when they bring up the crime here or any other negative thing as its relates to STX. The fact that you've not experience the hatred for STT is literally beyond me. I know how you feel - you feel I am giving STX a bad wrap. That's NOT my intention at all. I have been messaged by over a dozen long time board members here that agree - it's gone downhill. A couple have moved and a coulple are moving off island soon. I also feel that in the true spirit of a moving forum it's only fair to give the good with the bad. You can certainly just see my name and skip right over my post, it won't hurt my feelings. Bottom line is different strokes for different folks. I won't flam you for your opinions, please don't for mine.
I as offered a job on STT that would have doubled my salary. I declined, although there were many positives as a sailor, close proximity to the BVI's and STJ and lots of nice coves, places to eat and more flights available. It was just not what i wanted, i was afraid i'd miss STX too much. I'm sure some on this board will blast me for "not knowing the real STT and only knowing Charlotte Amailie" but facts are facts. I love my big crazy rock and I'm afraid i wouldn't give STT a fair shake so i stayed in STX. I can see AandA's points, home is home. After living in 3 different countries and a few cities, i am home and nothing will change it. Yes i know this is off the topic of the thread by the way.
In that case, we'll all be happy that your happy in STX and we'll all be happy when AandA2VI get back to STT.

But there also are those of us that feel STT has gone downhill and moved away. It's all personal perspective. The STT you know and love is not the same STT I knew and loved and life goes on.
To each, his own.

That's interesting. I've lived on STT for over 30 years and although of course it's changed over the years in some respects (as do most places) it's never once crossed my mind that it's "gone downhill". Maybe I've also changed over the years and gone downhill at the same pace so it's leveled out!

Yea no problems with that at all - the difference is that I don't make rude comments to those people calling the "touchy" or "miserable" when they gripe about STT. I can accept the fact that they/you may not like what I do and vise versa.
