Please help our community do the right thing!
On Thursday, May 8th: Athletes made a trip over on their boat, from St.Thomas to participate in the Coconut Cup SUP Race. They anchored their boat in Cane Bay along with their gear to be ready for an the early start of the race the following morning and spent the night on the North Shore. Unfortunately the boat was removed from its anchor and brought to the beach, where it was later robbed and then turned over to the Police Marine Unit until the owners could be found. The next day the Athletes a woke to find that they could not particulate in the Coconut Cup, had been robbed of their gear, and did not know where their boat was (and later find the boat was damaged).
Many good people on the North Shore have already expressed their disappointment in the judgment in watching or participating in removing the boat from its anchor and seeing this chain of events unfold. Other good people have helped recover many stolen items, like the paddle boards and paddles (THANK YOU!). However many more things were stolen and property was damaged along with the reputation of the North Shore and St. Croix.
We are asking the community to help show these athletes and other SUP'ers, this is not what St. Croix is all about. We are gratefully accepting donations for the athletes to make the repairs to their boat and replace the rest of the stolen items. We are hopeful that the GOOD people of St. Croix can show that we welcome visitors, especially athletes, to our island.
