Are there any plastic surgeons in St Thomas or Tortola? Or would perhaps Puerto Rico and Miami be the nearest geographically for qualified doctors?

The "Purple Palace" on Tortola is a rather famous fixer-upper spot.

Is the Purple Palace also known as the Bougainvillea Clinic? Someone told me that Bougainvillea Clinic on Tortola is a popular spot.

When Dr. Tattersall used to be full time there, there were always rumors flying about what famous person was supposedly his patient (Jackie Kennedy was mentioned but I don't believe it.) I had a friend who had a fabulous facelift done by him years ago. Her skin was terribly saggy from too many years & too much sun. The lift only made her look her true age, not 15-20 years older as she was before.

The standing joke was to be sitting on the beach & seeing a woman of a certain age who was, shall we say rather "perky" & someone inevitably would say, "T!ts by Tatt." 😉

Being a post bariatric surgery person I checked out the Bougainvilla on Tortolla. They charge $150 consultation fee. You would need to check your insurance to ensure it would cover out of the US for non-emergent surgery - if that's an issue. I can't speak for STT, but Dr. Moorman here on STX has done a great tummy and boob job on a friend of mine. He does considerable followup. He's from stateside.

I have several friends and acquaintances who over the years have gone to Robin Tattersall's clinic on Tortola and yes indeed he was/is world renown for his work with many celebrity clients. Whether he is actually still there or not I honestly don't know, He's into yacht racing and his name would always pop up where the big local races were concerned but I haven't seen his name around in those circles for a few years now.

As far as the USVI is concerned, I'd be sceptical about any plastic surgeon who works out of the island hospitals and, to the best of my knowledge, there is no plastic surgeon in the USVI who owns and operates his or her own clinic.

In fact there are no plastic surgeons listed in the Yellow Pages. The local West Indian population doesn't generally bother with all of that (and why should they because their skin retains its youth and elasticity far better than whitey skin!) and any necessary reconstructive plastic surgical patients are shipped to either the mainland or PR.

Hope this helps! Cheers!

As Linda said, Dr. Gregory Moorman is listed under Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons in Christiansted.
On STT, Dr. Adam Shapiro in the Paragon Medical Building is a member of the American Adacemy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery & Scott Hartshorn does Botox, Collagen, etc. but he's not a Plastic Surgeon per se as far as I know. They're not in private clinics but I wouldn't hesitate to use the hospital here on STT. In fact I had my eye operated on there & was very pleased (not with the bill but certainly with the professionalism of the staff as well as the facilities.)

Keloid scarring is a very high risk with African/West Indian skin - that could explain some reluctance...but the main reason is high self esteem and great body image!@!! Most West Indian women work with exactly what they have and feel goddam sexy to boot!

Perhaps we should be trying to emulate their body attitude and moving our young women away from self mutilation and elective surgery!!!

Just a thought!!!

Jane, I agree with you 100%! I feel that the USVI is a wonderful place to raise my daughters for this exact reason. I love the way the women here strut their stuff, no matter the generous size. It is the girls w/flat butts and chests that get teased. I have always been self-conscious about my weight but I get so much attention here--"baby got back". It is completely opposite to my growing up in the CT suburbs where everyone looked anorexic and was always on a diet. Here's to local stuffing, fungi, peas and rice and mac and cheese 🙂
