Went to the new movie last weekend. It was great. Very funny like the first. I would highly recommend it!
Does anyone know where it was filmed?

St. Vincent for the first one.

This one was Dominica.

Should have been filmed in the USVI, STT in particular, but because the Tourism Bureau sat on their hands, not understanding the value of a major film production shooting on island, and the dollars it would bring, the Producers went elsewhere. The producers needed a cove/bay that was deep enough to dock several ships, and pristine from the standpoint of no buildings or small ones that could be incorporated, and apparently on helicopter tours of STT and STJ, did not find what they sought. Nor did they find the cooperative spirit that would have helped nab the production.

I know this because I had been promised work as an Assistant Casting director IF the main casting lady I knew got the gig - sadly she did not, and therefore, neither did I.

And more importantly, STT or STX or STJ, did not get the production.

Bummer. Did they check out Santa Maria Bay? I know it was used for a Christopher Columbus production. Sounds like it would have fit the bill. It's also below my house...I would have loved to wake up to Johnny Depp! Through my binoculars that is.

Ixnay on the production in the USVI due to 'environmental concerns". Apparently Dominica's environmental laws are not as stringent as in the USVI.

Not to belabor the sad fact they didn't choose the VI - but I very seriously doubt that "environmental concerns" were anywhere close to the real issue. Might have made for a "polite" excuse.

After seeing the film, as I said, a pristine wilderness with high mountain spires, from which one could string a rope ladder bridge between, don't exist in the VI..........at least that I have ever seen!

Saw it last week with my 8 yr old. She enjoyed it. I didn't understand anything that was going on! All of the pirates looked the same to me. I was totally lost. Then, at the end, I really became confused at the last scene. Who was that? I came home and told my son who laughed and said I was confused because I hadn't seen the first one. If I had seen the first POC, I would have understood the last scene. There's obviously going to be a third.

If you're planning to see it, make sure you rent the first POC if you haven't seen that one.

Although I didn't understand a thing and couldn't tell the pirates apart, I was entertained by the various scenes. Many good laughs.

LOL! Who was that pirate!? Yup, you need to have seen the first one to really understand who ALL the major characters were - even when they show up at the end of the film!

Make sure to rent the first one before you see the 2nd.........and you'll more than likely best have seen the 2nd before you venture out to the 3rd, coming soon to a theater near you! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

POC has been in theaters for three weeks now. Does anyone know if or when the theater here in STT will be showing it?

STX had to wait a week after the major release before it started playing here. Some movies we actually get BEFORE their mainland release. Movies most often start here on a Thursday and the mainland premieres new films on Fridays. Other than special releases such as at Thanksgiving, of course.

Terry: Island Time! Yes it will show on STT. STX often gets the hotties before STT. Check Island Trader for listings or call the STT cinema to ask or aks what's upcoming!

I've pretty much given up going to see "popular movies" at the cinema after having tried to deal for many years with perpetually-yakking moviegoers who, when a quiet ten minute dialogue comes up (yak time) is followed by a barrage of surround-sound bam-bam which catches their attention and then they say, "Wha happen'? What I miss? What he/she say?"

Crying children, screaming babes in arms (please, get a babysitter!) Maybe I don't get the full screen effect but the movies eventually reach TV and I ain't missing much if I see them 6 months after their release. Just my humble opinion!
