Good Morning Everyone,
I was recently laid off from Hawaiian Air because of their sad economic state. My wife and I vacationed in the Virgin Islands many times before we moved to Oahu, Hawaii. Now that I am not working, we are looking into moving back to our favorite spot. The only thing stopping me is my career.. . I love flying more then anything, are there any major airlines that have allowed pilots to live in STT and fly from there as my base. I know Continental flies here. Any information on airlines operating to the Virgin Islands would be helpful.

Thank You

We have Delta, American, Continental, US Air and United flying in here. I know a pilot that works for Northwest and he lives here!

I suppose it would depend on what type rating you hold...and if one of the airlines are hiring. The mainlines going into STT (mentioned above) all fly mostly 757s, and American Eagle runs ATRs I think to and from Puerto Rico.

Might look into some of the regionals or island hoppers like Seaborne out of St Croix who has half a dozen Twin Otter float planes. http://www.seaborneairlines.com/

There are a lot of other island airlines that I can't think of now.

Best of luck to you. I know this business is tough right now, I work maintenance for a US Airways Express regional carrier in the states and have been thinking of applying to Seaborne because I also love the VIs. 🙂

Thank you all, being a pilot is extemely tough at the moment. The airlines just keep laying off pilots to save money. I used to fly 757's before moving to Hawaiian and flying 767-300s, since I have been trained for the 756 I can fly that. Does anybody know what planes Continental flies into STT?
