Picking up a shipped car

I plan on shipping a car and having an expiditor register it and all that good stuff.  How long will they hold it and can I have someone pick it up for me?  I will call Ferrol's trucking tomorrow, but just wondering if anyone had experience with them as I may not be on island when the Jeep arrives.

@daveb722

We shipped or car in September using VI Cargo.

They called us around 2 in the afternoon on Wednesday and told us we had until 5 pm that Friday to pick it up. Look at your shipping company's website site, because they vary.

When I went back to VI Cargo's web site (thinking about shipping some larger items, their storage fee policy is posted there ( http://vicargo.com/documents/STORAGE-CHARGES.pdf), but doesn't talk about vehicles.

I'm assuming that I would have been charged a daily storage fee after the first couple of days, but was on island and able to pick it up. Cars are normally picked up at the shipping port (not the cargo company warehouse).

Ask them the questions up front if they're not answered on their web site. If they give you an answer over the phone, all if they can also email it to you (so you have some documentation if you hear different when the car arrives).

Good luck!

I talked to Lorretta at Ferrol a couple weeks ago.  I want to make sure my vehicle get there and registered before I get there.  They have no problem keeping the vehicle for a while she said.  Did not ask for details on how long.  For an extra $45 they will even bring it to the airport for you.

We used Ferrol and had our property manager pick-up our Jeep.  It was no problem.  Everything was done while we were off island.

If we ever do it again, we'll give them a try!

Thanks for the valuable insights!
