pharmacy tech looking to move the st croix/st thomas
I am looking to move to the islands with the next year. i am a pharmacy technician. I have heard from others in passing finding work can be difficult on the islands. now how much of that is true i think depends on the field.
well getting to the point of the post.. How hard would it be to find a position in my field?
Judging by the limited number of pharmacies in the VI, I'd say "hard" to "very hard".
Maybe use Google to make a list of them, then call each one to get a feel for what opportunities may or may not be available.
Keep in mind that many come to the VI to live, but, few stay more than a few years.
Also, many employers tend hire people who are already living on one of the islands and don't take inquiries from people who haven't made the move yet very seriously. The reason is they learned long ago that the vast majority of people who think about moving to the Caribbean and try to find jobs remotely never actually come.
If you are serious about making the move most islands will tell you to save your money and when you have enough to support yourself for 6+ months make a move. You can use your nest egg to cover your living expenses while you search for employment. If you are lucky and find a job, all well and good. If not, make sure you keep enough in reserve to pay your way back to the mainland. One big caveat, in general you'll find that living expenses are going to be higher and wages for comparable positions are going to be lower than where you now live. That's the Catch-22 of life in the Caribbean.
