Pharmacies
Hello, All -
I'm new to this board and will be relocating - at least temporarily - to St. Thomas in December. My main issue is finding health care providers who take my insurance and finding drugstores that take my PRESCRIPTION insurance. I don't know if there are any major US mainland pharmacy chains in St. Thomas , i.e., CVS, Eckerd's, RiteAid, Walgreen's, WalMart, et al and haven't had any luck searching their sites. Any information would be helpful! Thanks!

I am not local but in my visits I haven't seen any "chain" pharmacies on the island.
May be you could get "prescriptions by mail"? My insurance provides that and, in fact, promotes the service with cheaper prices (the downside is having to wait but it isn't all too bad).
Call them and ask.
Tradewinds Pharmacy 340/775-2625
Havensight Pharmacy 340/776-1235
Healthy Living Pharmacy 340/777-3088
Chelsea Pharmacy 340/776-8300
Doctor's Choice Pharmacy (many locations; this # is for the one at Wheatley Center) 340/777-1400
KMart Pharmacy 340/777-3854
and lastly, winning the best and worst name for a pharmacy... The Drug Farm 340/776-1880 (at the Medical Foundation; one other locale)
The Drug Farm. Don't you expect them to be growing marijuana or something? Shouldn't it be spelled Drug "Pharm", as both a play on the word pharmacy and a nod to rap culture (as in "phat")?
Also many online drugstores like CVS.com and drugstore.com deliver to the VIs.
Well, we aren't a mainland chain kind of place! 😉
The way the insurance business is regulated here, it is difficult to get coverage for insurance that is not licensed through the Lt .Governor's office. K-Mart is about the only "mainland" place, and I would never recommend using it.
Chelsea Drugstore gets 5 stars *****! And then a few more for the nice people who work there.(tu)
on line drug store companies do deliver to the usvi as well as drugstore.com.
Depending on how long you'll be away from home, your insurance company might allow you to pre-purchase your meds (for your usual co-pay) before you leave for STX. That's what I did, but only for two months. I didn't get the impression that they have a distinct time limit, though; it seemed to be situation-dependent. Of course, every insurance company is different, but it's worth a phone call!
