PET FRIENDLY CONDOS
My husband and I are looking to moving to St. Thomas in 2 years. We have started looking into real estate and would rather purchase a condo vs. home at this time. Please advise if there are Pet-friendly Condo communities/grounds/resorts available. If so, name of location.
Also, are dogs allowed on the beaches? We were there for the week of July 4th and did not see any pets at the beach. Our dogs go everywhere with us... leaving them behind is NOT an option. Thank you in advance for any advise.
I don't know about the legality of pets on the beach in the USVI, but we used to take ours to more isolated beaches like Little Megans, and the beach at Frenchman's Bay which according to Google Maps now has a dirt road into now.. I used to spend quite a bit of my time at this beach, at least back in the 80s there was a VERY nice coral reef between the beach and the little island there (what is its name?)
Anyways, no one goes to the Frenchman's Bay beach. It is really nice...
The only condo I know of that allows dogs is Seacliff Villas (maybe the others in the Watergate area do, I don't know) BUT only for owners.
Please do not take your dogs to the beach. First, they harass the indigenous fauna. They are the main enemy of turtle eggs. They poop and pee at will.
Sea Cliff only allows pets under 40 lbs., I believe, with Board approval.
Caret Bay Villas also allow pets (dogs) with board approval. Don't think they have a size limit but may restrict how many. Not sure about Watergate. The majority of condos do not allow pets so if interested in any particular place, it is best to check 1st re: the association rules prior to viewing if you re bringing your pets.
I know that Mahogany Run, Sapphire West, Sapphire Beach, Sapphire Hillside,
Sapphire Village, Point Pleasant, Pavilions & Pools definitely do not.
You won't find pets allowed at the most popular condo associations but there are some smaller condo associations that may.
Dogs are not allowed on National Park beaches In STJ, STT resort beaches, VI Public beaches and not 100% sure but don't think they are allowed on the others unless the beach is off the beaten path.
I used to see dogs on Hull Bay Beach but don't know if that has changed.
And on beaches where they are permitted, the VI leash law (max 6' leash) applies. Your dogs' lives will have to be adjusted accordingly!
