Good morning, all --
There is a petition circulating to support Peace Officer Status for federal agents in the USVI.

This petition is set to send each Senator an email when someone signs the petition.
This bill might not be the answer to all, but it is a step in the right direction.

Yeah and I heard our Senators went kicking and screaming every step of the way before passing it!
At least it is passed! Thank goodness.

Why would anyone in their right mind vote against something that would help ease crime? Afraid for friends or relatives being arrested?

Our legislators are petulant children, constantly pandering to the VI's lowest common denominator in an attempt to get re-elected. The lowest common denominator, people like the 5th constitutional convention, view this as nothing more than statesiders telling them their business and nothing burns their asses more than that - they will actively vote against their own best interests to maintain the status quo. Honestly, I'm shocked it got passed, and it only looks like it did with very heavy handed "we'll give you peace offer status but you better believe we will hold you to a far higher standard of conduct than we would ever impose on our own police force" type language.

can't remember which senator, but one of them said they would be affraid for the children if it passed and hanson voted no as did nelson, cant remember the other two

ok so they passed it--great! Let's take it as a victory and run...
Now the agencies need to co-operate. This is 2-way street.
Set some goals. My top 5 suggestion
1--go after the guns. guns coming in. guns on the street. guns used in crimes.
2--proceedures--make arrests "that count" and lead to convictions.
3--protection of witnesses
4--drugs
5--gangs & repete offenders (ie bad boys)

This one I cann't figure out..."someone is holding a knife to your throat, that's a "local matter". What the heck was his point..???
