I guess in these hard economic times, it pays to be a pirate! Johnny Depp just signed a deal or $52 MILLION up front to be in the next installment of Pirates of the Caribbean. Tough work, but I guess somebody has to do it.:@)

52 million, that has to be a record! I've heard of stars getting 20 million per picture, but 52, yikes! It would be nice if he would do some charity work in the caribbean.

I thought when I herd "pays to Be a pirate", it was a post about WAPA only giving back 18% when they should give 50%(oil $135 from last LEAC, $87 now Plus the surcharges the citizens pay due to the outstanding Government unpaid bills which the government paid!).

Or, it could have been Taliban east (Food Center) 30% higher than the average food market (despite their expired food offerings).

Or Pueblo, or Plaza extra (Do you think they will decrease their prices to reflect the WAPA decrease?????????, or do you think they will just be greedy & keep their inflated prices high??)

The point is, the damage has been done, even though WAPA (finally) decided to give us a break, we will forever be paying these increases, & we still have the HIGHEST electric rates of any State/ Territory!
So, WAPA will continue the be THE reason our business can not compete with other locals & the consumer gets gouged, thus our cost of living goes solely to WAPAs (& the greedy merchants) coffers!
And, we are over $1 the national average on our retail gas prices, but that`s another gouging Hovensa story...
Hey PSC, you sat with WAPA,got us %18 of %50 percent, what about gas prices, can do at least do equally terrible, or are you completely useless here??

It's not Hovensa, it's the gas station owners who are gouging the VI. The rack price that gas is sold at is the same price that gas is sold to distrib/dealers in the northeast. Their gas is transported to NJ, then driven to stations on NJ, NY, etc. Add in .58 or more per gallon in taxes, at least in NY, and yet I can buy gas at a Hess station in NY for LESS than the gas is sold for in STX.
Do the math..the rack is now $2.79, and that includes the 7 cent tax....How much are the gas stations grossing on their sale? How much can Bunkers or whomever be charging to transport a truckful---a couple hundred dollars or so at the most, I would think? Sure Wapa is ridiculous, but in NY the electric is more than 25 cents/kw. One of the STX station owners blamed his high price on the fact that he had to buy insurance before Hovensa would sell him fuel...He had no response when I asked him if he actually thought gas stations in the states didn't have insurance...Stations in the states operate on a few cents a gallon profit...stations on the VI are money machines for the owners. Yet, so many make Hovensa the bad guy.

Gas is $3.79 @ the station by the ball park in C'sted, and $3.55 at 5 corners in STX.
If you drive around STX, gas prices are all over the map....................but it seems West is BEST when it comes to gas prices!
I guess it cost more to haul the gas all the way over to the East side of the island, thus price gouging!!!

Lets focus here people......this was about Depp getting $52 million for the next Pirates of the Caribbean picture.....Dollar is down a bit, so maybe they had to offer up a little extra $$$ to get him to accept the job. Can't imagine it being as good as the first one though.

Seems like there is money to be made here then. Anyone want to buy a gas station and a fuel truck with me 🙂

Seriously, WHY is gouging occurring? What is preventing usual market forces to prevail? Is government not allowing new suppliers to enter the market? I heard that these new Excell stations are owned by a new person to the gas station business here and are helping to bring prices down. Anyone know what is going on here?
