Passport Needed?
My new wife and I will be in St. Thomas in June for our honeymoon. What documents will I need to get into the country? Will I need a passport? My passport is expired, so if I need a passport I will need to renew it soon.
I don't know what country you are coming from, but I would expect that having a passport in this post 9/11 world would be very helpful. If you are in the USVI and want to go to the BVI your passport (or certified copy of a birth certificate) is necessary for a US citizen. I am not sure what the requirements are for citizens of other countries, but I'm sure a passport would be a good idea! And congrats on your upcoming marriage!!
Eric,
Assuming you are heading down from Vermont or somewhere else in the Northeastern US and that your are a US citizen, you will need at least a 'raised seal' birth certificate along with one other piece of photo identification such as a drivers license. Passport while nice, is not necessary.

I will be travelling with three kids ages 13, 10 and 7. Do they need birthcertificates also?
Yes, everyone (kids too) needs documentation to clear Immigration back to mainland. As Candace mentioned, a passport in this new environment is probably best for all.
We just returned yesterday with our two kids 14 and 12. Ours have passport so it was easy. Assuming you are US citizen, birth certificate will work- also required if you want to take day trip to British VI. Remember, "original- certified" (i.e., raised seal) birth certificate, not a copy.
You will NOT need the three hours airline will tell you to clear customs/immigration. Yesterday was very busy Saturday during high season. Entire process from drop off at airport to final security check was 30 minutes max. Allowing 2 hours will be "more" than enough, especially at less busy times.

As a resident alien of the US (not a US citizen) what do I need to enter the USVI? Everyone is saying take proof of US citizenship which I don't have. What are the immigration procedures when one returns to the US? Does one have to go through US immigration again or are the USVI regarded as part of the US?
Eric -
I'm not an expert in this area...but I can tell you what I observed a few weeks ago.
Upon entering St Thomas from the US mainland (or puerto rico if that is your route) there is no customs/immigration process.
Before boarding a plane leaving St Thomas for the US mainland (or upon entering puerto rico from St Thomas) you must pass through a customs, a USDA (no fruits etc), and an immigration check.
Best guess - I would expect that whatever documentation you would require to reenter the US mainland if you left to visit a non-US destination will be required here as well.
My husband is a citizen of BVI, I and my sister are US citizens traveling to St.Thomas and to BVI, once we arrive in St. Thomas USVI do we need a passport to visit BVI?
Please read the above. NO you do not need a passport to get into BVI. Certified Birth certificate OR Drivers License. I go over all the time and we have customers that clear with Drivers License with no problem. The law changes in Jan 2007 where EVERYONE will have to have a passport.
So you might as well cough up the $80 and get a passport.
Colin:
You need your alien registration card and your passport.
From the research i've done bro you only need State issued DL to get in but you need A birth cert and DL to get bk to the mainland . hope that helps.
