Does anyone have any experience with transporting birds (Parrots) to the island? American Airlines will only let you bring dogs and cats on board.

We have our ONE WAY tickets in hand! :@) 3 and a half weeks!!

no experience at this, but it has to be fairly easily possible as I used to have a neighbor who came and went with their cockatoo several times each year.

We brought our African Grey here on American. We had to put her in a soft sided cat carrier, and installed a perch on the bottom of it. She was considered a carry on bag. She sat quietly on the floor the whole trip.

The biggest problem is the temperature regulations, If it's over 85 degrees at either airport you send them in the baggage compartment. I have a Blue & Gold Macaw that I have to wait til the fall to bring

I may need to double check with American...this is from their site

"Types of Pets Allowed
Cats and dogs are the only types of pets accepted for travel on American Airlines. We maintain the right to refuse acceptance of any animal that is exhibiting aggressive behavior. "

We already missed the new 1 checked bag rule by one day....

Delta allows birds - see http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/special_travel_needs/pet_travel_information/pet_requirements_restrictions/index.jsp

The following has a list of tons of airline pet policies:

http://awic.nal.usda.gov/nal_display/index.php?info_center=3&tax_level=2&tax_subject=181&level3_id=0&level4_id=0&level5_id=0&want_id=1689&topic_id=1131&placement_default=0

Hope you can get help there. I assume you are going back to get them after your first trip down. I'd also ask here at the pet store how she gets her birds in . They must come in from Puerto Rico. Once you get them to Puerto Rico I'm sure the smaller airlines (like CapeAir or Seaborne) won't have a problem bringing them over.

Best of luck.
