THIS IS A REPOST OF A MESSAGE LOST.

I was loking for recent feedback from people that have shipped packages from the US mainland to St. Croix using standard parcel post through the US Post Office.

I am not in a hurry get the heavy packages to St. Croix as I don't need them until December.

What I want to know is if you shipped something did it arrive and was the package and its contents in OK shape.

Thanks.

Peter

And my answer was that we shipped 5-6 very large boxes by parcel post with good results. It did take about 3 weeks for them to get to St. Croix. And there was some breakage, but it was our own fault, we didn't pack well enough. None of the boxes were tampered with in any way.

It's a good way to sent household stuff, books, etc. I would not send anything that it would kill me to lose.

Peter,

I have had folks mail me things from the states to St. Thomas and the other way around as well... regular mail, book rate, express, fed ex, priority, ups... used them all. I have had just a few negative experiences including the mail being delivered to the wrong box, one number off - but the post office folks really tried to help fix the problem; another time the box was really really late but it was because my friend's hand writing was scarcely legiable so they weren't sure what box number it was. Another time for work the boxes some how got delivered to the wrong place - but the business called and said we got your mail come get it. A few times large envelopes have been torn - sometimes it looks like they may have just gotten snagged on something metal and tore and one or two times it actually seemed someone tore it perhaps to see what was inside (it was a small box of candy which could have looked like a ring box)... had one package shipped in a hard plastic box and it cracked but the contents were fine. I recall receiving a few boxes and they were wet - I reasoned that when they were unloading the trucks perhaps they set the boxes down outside between the truck and the building - not sure. The book rate packages got to their destination just fine in terms of the contents but the box itself was really dirty - LOL... looked like it had traveled a long way. Overall I would say just make sure you pack the boxes well - use things you will need as packing - soaks, t-shirts other cloths - line the inside of the box with this buffer material and then put your other items in the center basically. If its heavy items like books make sure the box is sturdy and well taped up along the seams. You might even use large rubbermaid boxes to pack things and make sure you tape it well. I second what Linda said - don't mail anything you could not stand losing or getting damaged - bring those items with you. Good Luck.

we were told shipping parcel post to stx could save us money .. im sure it did BUT we propably saved money on what we shipped via freightor, moved here 2 months ago,but personally it was a pain... the first boxes we shipped 8'22 were the last to arrive, the last boxes that were shipped 9'1 were the first to arrive the postal people were not exatly friendly about it or cooperate they would tell us all our boxes were still in puerto ric o,sen d us a post card to pick up 1 box we would show up , to pick up 1box, after my husband had questioned them and find out we had 5 boxes.. keep very close track of all boxes sent persoanally it saves you money but the system stinks and i doubt i would do it again..BUT that was still a small price to pay to move and be SETTLED IN PARADISE JUST A BIT OF OPINIONATED ADVICE ..BUT NOT AQ COMPLAINT BECAUSE IN OUR MIND '.THERE IS NOTHING THAT COULD DIMINISH THE TRADE OFF FOR LIVING HERRE AS LONG AS YOU KN OW WHAT TO EXPECT GOOD LUCK
