Change IS coming.

But it is the sort of change that takes generations to achieve.

Which is why EDUCATION is KEY!

Which is also why education is in such awful, deplorable shape here. Smart children are a huge political liability.

Still, if you want to make a difference, help by opening they eyes and minds of young people.

AGREED!!!!

Education is the key which is why all of us who can vote must interview and talk to our candidates and elected officials and stress this issue.
If you aren't registered to vote, head over to Sunney Isle and do it. Voter registration is next to the Kmart/ Kenmore store. It only takes about 15 minutes and can make such a huge difference.

As for Roger Morgan and his radio show, I have been on the show a couple of times to promote my medical marijuana initiative. He was very respective and respectful and I appreciated his help in publicizing the issue. I think talk shows like his are important to get messages out to the people. I hope he does OK and gets through this rough patch.

anyone know more about Roger Morgan and the show Free Speech? Someone told me last week that an article in the Daily or Avis said Roger was evicted from his house. Today there was no Free Speech on the radio. Just curious...

On Facebook, Roger said that he had a prepared statement to play today during the regular "Free Speech" slot. But the new owners felt that his statement was not appropriate. He posted it on FB.

What does the statement say? I hope all of you "haters" will be happy now, now you will have just another boring radio station or you could switch and listen to one of those absolutely awful talk radio shows.

HI…ROGER W. MORGAN HERE. YOU KNOW, WE IN THE MEDIA SPEND OUR LIFETIMES DOING OUR BEST TO GET RECOGNIZED. EARLY IN MY CAREER, I USED TO DREAM UP CRAZY PROMOTIONS TO GET NOTICED BY THE PUBLIC…TO OCCASIONALLY GET MY NAME IN THE NEWSPAPER. I NEVER DREAMED THE DAY WOULD COME WHEN I WOULD PREFER TO LEAD A MORE “BEHIND THE SCENES” EXISTANCE. I NEVER DREAMED THE DAY MIGHT COME WHEN I WOULD PREFER THAT MY NAME NOT APPEAR IN PRINT.

LATELY, THERE SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN A LOT OF SPECULATION ABOUT THE FATE OF “FREE SPEECH”. WE’VE ADDRESSED A LOT OF THOSE RUMORS RIGHT HERE ON THE PROGRAM. SO, HERE’S THE STORY…STRAIGHT FROM THE SOURCE.

THE DECISION HAS BEEN MADE BY NEW PROSPECTIVE OWNERS OF PARADISE RADIO, TO DISCONTINUE FREE SPEECH. NO, I’M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH…I’M TALKING ABOUT THE PROGRAM THAT I HAVE BEEN PROUD TO HOST FOR THREE QUARTERS OF A DECADE HERE IN THE VIRGIN ISLANDS.

I’VE ENJOYED A VERY REWARDING CAREER IN RADIO. BUT OF ALL THE EVENTS IN THIS MEMORABLE VOYAGE, I CAN SAY, WITHOUT RESERVATION, THAT MY TIME ON ST. CROIX HAS BEEN THE MOST ENJOYABLE TIME I’VE SPENT. THE FRIENDS THAT KANGJA AND I HAVE MADE HERE…THE THINGS YOU HAVE TAUGHT US…THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT HAVE BEEN AFFORDED US AS THE RESULT OF BEING WELCOMED INTO THE UNIQUE CULTURE OF THE ISLANDS…HAS BEEN MORE REWARDING THAN ALMOST ANYTHING I CAN RECALL IN MY CAREER AND MY LIFE.

I HAVEN’T BEEN JUST AN OBSERVER OF THE STRUGGLES AND TRIALS OF LIFE HERE IN THE TERRITORY, I’VE BEEN A PARTICIPANT. I’VE BEEN THROUGH THE POWER OUTAGES…OBSERVED THE VAGARIES OF A GOVERNMENT IN TURMOIL, WE’VE EXPERIENCED THE SHOCK OF CRIME AND WALKED A FINANCIAL TIGHTROPE FROM WHICH WE’RE ALL “RIPE FOR A FALL” AT ANY MOMENT.

THIS PAST WEEK, I TUMBLED FROM THE TIGHT WIRE. AT FIRST, I FELT I HAD FALLEN WITHOUT A NET BELOW ME. BUT THE MORE I EXAMINED THE SITUATION, THE MORE I REALIZED THAT YOU…THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN KIND AND GENEROUS AND FORGIVING – BEYOND BELIEF – ARE THAT SAFETY NET. EMOTIONALLY, YOU HAVE PROVIDED ME AND MY FAMILY WITH STRENGTH THAT WE MIGHT NEVER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND WITHIN MYSELF HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR YOU.

PARADISE RADIO WILL CONTINUE UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP. HOPEFULLY, THE COURSE THAT HAS BEEN CHOSEN FOR THE STATION WILL KEEP MUCH OF WHAT WE HAVE CREATED, ALIVE AND WELL INTO THE FUTURE.

ONE THING I KNOW FOR SURE. I WILL WATCH FROM WHEREVER I LAND…I’LL WATCH AND PRAY THAT THE COURAGE YOU HAVE SHOWN WILL NOT BE SILENCED. I’LL CHEER YOU FROM A DISTANCE, AND PROUDLY APPLAUD YOU EACH TIME YOU SPEAK AND STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS HERE IN THE TERRITORY. THE PROGRAM, “FREE SPEECH” MAY BE SILENCED FOR NOW…BUT THE VOICES THAT HAVE FUELED THE PROGRAM OVER THE YEARS MUST NEVER BE SILENCED.

I PROMISE TO DO MY BEST TO KEEP A LINE OF COMMUNICATION OPEN BETWEEN US. ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, WE’LL FIND A WAY TO MAINTAIN THE RELATIONSHIP THAT HAS MEANT SO MUCH TO ME, MY WIFE AND MY FAMILY…AND HOPEFULLY, HAS OCCASIONALLY BEEN A COMFORT TO YOU. FOR NOW, LET’S COMMUNICATE THROUGH FACEBOOK. REQUEST A FRIENDSHIP RELATION WITH ME AND CONSIDER IT DONE. FACEBOOK…A GOOD PLACE FOR US TO BEGIN OUR CONTINUING RELATIONSHIP.

MAY GODSPEED. I THANK THE PROSPECTIVE OWNERS OF PARADISE RADIO FOR GRANTING ME THIS OPPORTUNITY TO LEAVE YOU WITH THIS MESSAGE. MAY GOD BLESS YOU…AND MAY GOD BLESS OUR BEAUTIFUL US VIRGIN ISLANDS.

Hasn't he been doing a similar type program in Virginia, since last fall? Perhaps living in the VI wasn't all that he wanted for himself and family.

I for one will miss the program. Didn't always listen but did enjoy some of the banter.

Who is the new station owner?

I hear and read that people aren't fans of the show, but if that is/was true, why do you listen to the show?

Roger touted his program and station as the most listened to talk show in the Caribbean. I don't think he was booted for not bringing in the audience. If I owned the station, I would keep him and Free Speech on the air. In recent times he was ensuring the listening audience that things were fine and FS was not going anywhere. Then it was gone. Without a word from Roger, except for FB friends. hmmmmmm

Just found out who the new owners are but can't say. Should be a news release soon. RM left lots of unpaid bills. Too bad...
