Overall experience........
Hello all,
I have been lurking on this site for a few weeks getting information from all you wonderful people. To make a long story short I was just curious to get anwered how is/was your overall experience for the newer locals and ones that have moved back to the mainland. Is it "all that",any regrets, would you do it again if you had not?
Thanks for your time.
Some come and stay (me), while others come and only last for 3-6 months. I think it's all in the attitude. The ones that leave are the ones that came with the grandiose idea that they were going to be living in paradise (which it is) and not have all the troubles that they have had in the past. But, here is like there (wherever 'there' might be) in that you still need a job, you still have to go to the grocery store/bank/WAPA/post office, etc. and things are going to be a bit different than 'there' because this culture is different. Some can't hack it and leave. Others adapt to the new culture and fit right in. If you come, come with an open mind and try to learn to fit in. Don't come thinking that it's going to be like 'there'. You cannot hit the bank in 2 minutes (45 minute MINIMUM!!), or just 'run in' to the store and get something quick. Nothing is quick here. Accept it and remember that the world doesn't revolve around you...you are but one small cog in a great big machine. Find your 'place' and it works out very well.
But, it still sucks sitting in that taxi traffic downtown! (That's why I ride a Harley! Haha!)
Thanks Marty!
