Our Landlord had Security Cameras
When we moved to St. Thomas, our Landlord had Security Cameras outside, around the house. It recorded everything that took place outside, including our conversations!
BUT the Camera Audio was so sensitive that it also picked up ALL conversations inside! My husband & I would be discussing something involving the rental property. In the middle of our conversations, the landlord would call about exactly what we were discussing. I ask him, how he knew to call at that same time? He always said, “it was by consequence.” BULL!
We had a camera audio friend come by before we left. He explained that the position the cameras were facing, is Why!
it concerned us so badly that we stopped having, “Private marriage moments.”
When we moved out we were held accountable for things we did not do! We had no problem on the thing we did do but everything else, No way
There we’re issues with the Cistern Water being used by us and two other units. We were paying for all the water until Mr. W decided to put in separate meters.
To any problems constantly and privacy invaded. Creepy feeling.
is there a way to put a Review out on a Landlord or a web site? Can I do it here?
It’s legal to have the cameras as long as they are not hidden or inside. But you do have a right to privacy and if they are positioned in a way that allows the landlord to hear you in areas where you have a right to privacy that is not legal. I don’t think there is any way to leave a review other than posting on a forum like this. You could file a complaint with the DLCA but the Vance’s of your landlord having a business license is probably slim. You could probably file a police report too if you want to take it there. What an uncomfortable situation!
Security and surveillance cameras are ubiquitous now whether out in the open or hidden. There's really very little you can do about them except complain amongst yourselves. DLCA or the local police will do absolutely nothing about them. Personally, I have them outside around my house too. I operate an AirBNB and state it clearly in my AirBNB listing that they're there. Not one guest has ever mentioned them.
