No need to be rude, sausage.
Heck, I went through inspection lane yesterday and the guy inspecting the truck asked me if I wanted to sell it and offered $10K. I don't. Yet!
That's obviously not BB value that my insurance would assign to my 1997 Toyota Tacoma.

Didn't even have to beep my horn yesterday plus they had someone there to remove your old plates and put on your new ones. Not crazy about the centennial plates nor the cost.

Sausage was just defending himself. It was the OP that was being rude.

Anyhow, WOW, only in the island would something like this happen. Since the car is so old and not worth much, I wouldn't spend a lot of time going after it. Lesson learned.

If you can't afford to replace your car, then you should have more than just liability insurance coverage. I suspect you decided it wasn't worth having theft or collision coverage on a car valued at $3,000 to $4,000.

You made the choice not to cover theft through insurance and the responsibility to replace the car may now be yours. That's the risk you took.

It's really too bad your car was stolen - but that's a crime that happens so often (at least here in FL) the police take a report and tell you good luck with that.

Gator's Mom, If you can find an insurer here on STT that will insure for more than liability on a 10 year old car, please share the name. Unfortunately, my 2008 is only eligible for liability here on the island. They will not insure for theft or accident. I'm sure STX is the same.

Sausage in a Can, you are being the jerk here. What's wrong with using the forum to try to find their car. If you can't play nice, don't play. No need for sarcastic nasty comments.

The same thing could have happened to you on STT any day of the week. I wouldn't blame the island.

Who is blaming the island? I didn't bring that up... maybe sausage was, as his post was removed and I didn't see what he said.

Curious how I was being rude? Was stating FACTS. KBB does not apply here. Almost like when people say, "well in the states we do it this way". I wasn't trying to be rude at all, I found it hilarious actually. Is sasuage even on island? I think some people leave and forget how it works down here.

AandA2VI is right.

A car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

That applies anywhere really.

And I would pay 5k in .02 seconds to have that car back or another one even like it. May have to go to FL as we can't find anything similar here.

Keep your eyes out for us PLEASE for a similar car. A vitara would be awesome, older jeep, etc. Island rides are OK! Totally. Not opposed at all to popping over to STT or STJ and shipping it over. Needs to be a smal SUV for our road, cars won't cut it.

Does anyone in STJ know who's selling this and if it's still for sale? http://virgin.craigslist.org/cto/5938113026.html

Can't get contact with them.

Lmfao KBB in the VI? Why don't you just run a car fax while you're at it. Oookkk, sausage what are u a newb? Dying laughing over here bro. Yes we can buy a new car with our savings, that is our emergency money but thanks for looking down on me from your stateside soapbox gator. Chupes.

Feel free to deposit $ into my account for new said car. Maybe you have 6-8k to toss around but we don't... especially since I am saving to MOVE off STX the second we can back to STT. Sarcastic and rude.

Really? Looking down on me from your stateside soap box. You're kidding, right? It was rude. I think he was trying to give a general idea what insurance would pay and what it is realistically worth. It doesn't matter what islanders are willing to pay for a car. He even said it was worth a lot considering the age.
PS He's on STT

Uhhh that was directed at gators comment as she's not in the VI and hasn't been for some time. Reread my comment, clearly said gators so not sure why you missed that and thought I was talking to sasuage. Hence a paragraph break. I felt like she had a crappy attitude so I did call her out. Especially after questioning my personal financial status which is none of her concern and advice that was clearly off base.

Sausages comment was a laughing point for me since we all know kbb doesn't fly here. I'm the one who got screwed over and I don't appreciate ANYONE putting anything more negative on me. It's not like we just left it out with the keys in it. Clearly was not our fault at all and was supposed to be kept inside the entire time they had it in their possession. His points are totally moot because insurance wont cover a 97 which has been gone over and also his "realistic" price wasn't realistic at all. It absolutely DOES matter what people are willing to pay... that's the whole point. Find me a 97-2000 CRV on island (that runs) for KBB price and I won't only by it but I'll give you a $200 finders fee.

For those who shipped a car from FL is $1500 about right? What's the road tax and stuff usually add up to for an older car? Asssuming $500-ish? And the vin needs to start with a 1? I remember something about that in our research but that was 5 years ago. Is crowley into shipping cars? Maybe have to try stateside but we are totally willing to go to STT or STJ and shipping over also.

Popping over to STJ to get an SUV? That would take some real luck. You may have a better chance over on PR.

Not really, we have a lot of friends on each island. Especially STT - mechanic friends. So if there's something available we will have friends look at it first and pop over for a final look with a mechanic. 😉 there's also a lot more of what we want over there. More clearance SUV styles.

Good god I just looked at Craigslist and it's ALL scams. So annoying! I haven't been on there in forever because of that and it seems worse.

Haha, A&A, when you were on the buying side for a used car [a 97 CRV, if I recall!] you were *all about* the KBB value! 😉 I guess you were a newb back then, but you did get a good deal.

Sorry to hear about the car, and it's sad to know that low-mileage engine has probably already been revved to 9000 rpm and will only last through another week of street racing...

Good luck on finding the next one.

Uhhh it says right there Oookkk sausage what are you a newb? Are you calling Gators mom Bro? Try reading your own post. It doesn't look like a paragraph break.

Oh yeah. If you know so much about Sausage and his whereabouts why did you ask first? Please tell us where he is then and while you are at it his name. I'm calling BS.

I'm asking, I've never shipped a car. Last research I did on shipping was 5 years ago.

I think I paid 5k or a little over for my 97 if I recall correctly? Ted was that from you? Was a while ago and no it wasn't KBB value and I was a total newb so I bet I was comparing it. I have learned a LOT in over 4 years now including buying and selling a couple cars. Didn't want to have to buy another one so soon, that's for sure. My friend put it well - buying a new old car on the island is the pits!

Not sure what your beef with me is james T but do you need a safe place? *-)

James looks to be the newbie here.

Why do people get so nasty over a basic inquiry? I thought that's what this forum was all about. I can understand sniping at each other on the Coconut Tree forum, when discussing politics/whatever, but the Relocating is supposed to be a spot where people can ask questions and get answers. If you can't play nice, why play? Just to stir up the pot and create drama? Seriously. Practice some random acts of kindness people. Grow up.
