On another thread about going to dinner.....I had mentioned purchasing drinks and the paying for ICE with no liquor or mix.

Whoa did I get stung last night. Went to dinner had my usual vodka tonic with lime......11 bucks....To insult me more it came in the size of an "old fashioned" glass. Yikes my palm got burnt bad....considering that Kettle Vodka bottle at retail and the price to have my favorite beverage with dinner.

From now on cocktails at home then go out to dinner and drink Iced Tea.

Lesson Learned

Am I allowed to name the establishment? I don't want to get red flagged by the moderators.

BTW, I'm on STT. Dining prices are not that much different between here at STX I don't think as I go out to eat on both islands and STJ too.

Sure! People name names all the time. Some good reviews, some not so good.

For the record, we truly enjoy dining at the Grill Room. The food and service is exceptional, but the increase in beverage prices is as I said lesson learned.

I want to be honest and fair with this post so I've scanned my receipt; you all can see the $11.00 charge for the vodka tonics. The truth is in the receipt.

As an FYI they never charge for bread and that came out on the bill like that is beyond me I have no idea what a course break is either.

I love that restaurant too but don't order drinks so had no idea they cost that. I suspect the bread came out because the final bill is based on the computer entry of your order. Good price on the prime rib. I just had that artichoke dip last week. I always order it.

I have NEVER seen a price like that for a Vodka Tonic on STX.

It wasn't a vodka/tonic. It was Ketle One, a top shelf vodka. Still, $11 is over the top, but probably in keeping with other places. Anyone have any prices from somewhere else?

Juanita,

I said in my original post Kettle Vodka tonic.... "considering that Kettle Vodka bottle at retail and the price to have my favorite beverage with dinner."

Bella Blue is 6.00 - Room with A View 7.00 both are larger glasses than an "Old Fashioned" glass that the Grill Room Served.

St. Croix at Bombay Club is 6.00 for a Tumbler Size glass..The same price at Case Place 6.00, and 7.00 at The Palms.

No where in my post did I state I was drinking "call brand" liquor, I made it clear Kettle Vodka. I don't drink "call" brand vodka.

I don't think Juanita's post was directed at you; I believe she was correcting Linda J who said Vodka tonic.

Sometimes when we go out, we just don't feel like drinking. We just order ice tea.

We went to Kendricks on STX about a month ago and had ice tea. It was a hot night and we ordered steaks and fish plus appetizers. We had a table of six. The food and service was excellent, but we were floored when we got our bill and were charged for each refill of ice tea!!

I know that Bombay, Breezes, Rum Runners and Paradise Cafe (most restaurants on STX) give free refills. I can assure we won't be going to Kendrick's again. You would think that they would not want to run off local customers just for the chance of pillaging on the bill!!

Correct, STXResident.

When I worked at Molly Molone's, we were getting $8 or $9 for Ketle One. That was about 5 years ago. Of course, Molly's drinks are (were) 16 oz. for a regular highball type drink. And we all tended to pour very generously.;)

Betty,
I have encountered that before too, and just my observation...it seems to be more local places that charge for refills. The places that are owned by stateside transplants and/or cater to statesiders usually offer free refills. At least it seems that way to me.

However...I am usually having wine!:D
