Others like water island

Robin: There are a large number of cays and islands within the USVI. Water Island is probably the only one that has a scheduled ferry service (besides St John, of course). Several are privately owned, such as Lovango and Little St James. You can still go visit Hans Lollick before the developers get their claws in it... Buck Island... Great St James. But, no nothing like Water Island!

Have to agree that although there are many to explore and visit, none really like Water Island in the sense of small island, a few nice beaches, small population, roads, houses but no commercialization.

If you can captain a boat you can rent one and go to islands like those East Ender suggested. Or go with a charter.

The BVI islands are not too far if you want to go check them out.

Unfortunatly the USVI does not have the many small interesting islands of other Caribbean locations. The British Virgin Islands has so many they can"t count them all..
Those of you who have cruised the BVI know of the "zillions" of private places to stop and enjoy all by yourself. I won't try to name even a fraction of them, but I found an interesting advertisement of 'iSLANDS FOR SALE". I'm sure most of you sailors have seen GreenCay ..Sandy Spit just off Jost Van Dyke. They are the epitome of a sandy paradise island and for sale for a mere $1,700,000. Also Just off of Virgin Gorda you will find George Dog Island. (and the other dog islands) I once spent a "marooned day" courtesy of Little Dix resort on George Dog. It is for sale for $1,700,000 (private islands.com) . I am sure you can find a small place that will suit you somewhere in the US or British virgin islands...

b: I have to disagree with you! The USVI has plenty of interesting and uninhabited islands. You do need a boat to get to them- just like George Dog, etc. What Robin was asking about is an island that has a little infrastructure and a public transportation system. Here are some USVI islands that you can reach by boat- Buck Island, Great St James, Hans Lollick and Little Hans Lollick, the Brasses, the Durloos, Whistling Cay...

Here is a bit of geography since we are sort of on the topic. (East Ender what did you say to call it "Teacher is In" LOL.

The U.S.V.I. consist of four larger islands and some 50 smaller islets and cays. The total area of the U.S.V.I. is 133 square miles. The British Virgin Islands are made up of four larger and 32 smaller islands. The total area of the B.V.I. is 59 square miles.
