Old Richmond jail--STX
I just came across some articles on the old Richmond jail on STX and am wondering if the building is still around (and if so, where exactly it is). I know after Golden Grove was built it became some sort of youth social center, but I lost the trail after that.

So it still stands. Thanks! Any idea what it's being used for now?
The prison is next to the fire station near WAPA, it is now a ruin with just the walls left.
Thanks, Bombi
The is a really nice arch on the fire station side with a small guard alcove, looks to be Danish(?)
I've been inside there. Some of the chains were still in the holding cells.
The architecture of the building is beautiful. Yet, we have another building the GVI owns that has gone to crap. Something useful could be done with the property, yet we will all witness the complete dilapidation of the property. The history that is there wanes with the GVI. What a shame. History is history, but this administration doesn't give a crap. So sad.
I agree. I hate to drive around and see all these historic buildings allowed to crumble.
I would love to see us be able to do with our "ruins" what these guys did with a castle ruin in England:

The GVI doesn't even have the money to maintain current buildings and infrastructure never mind those from yesteryear.
What they need to do is tear down these eyesores and crack houses, including abandoned and neglected private properties and charge the owners for the service.
I'm not suggesting the government do these renovations. Everyone knows there's no money there. I'm saying they should make it easier for the private sector to buy and restore these ruins.

Yes, Bernie, they should. They could also do a minimal lease rate to get people to want to take possession of the properties. There is so much the GVI could do.
