Good afternoon, How are ya!

My name is TJ and:

I’ve been watching you… : ) Lurking, stalking,,, whatever you wanna call it… I have researched and think STX is for me.

I’m looking at a relocation around the end of Feb, beginning of March 2010, God I can’t believe I just typed that date, who would have thunk I would have lived to 45. (My Birthday is Feb 14th)

Since it’s a done deal in my head, and once there, forget it. It’s going on, a’rightt…

I know its 5-6 months out but, might as well introduce and start that wonderful long distance networking. Gotta Luv the internet.

A’Rigght (I’ll have no prob w/ that, been say’n it for years)

In searching USVI (STX) I am having problems finding,

1) (No offence intended) A working person’s forum (or any other forum for other points of view).
2) Comprehensive business listing.
3) A better explanation of the areas. Specifically the hill area I can see on Google maps.

Having lived on Padres Isl, TX. I know what I need in an area on a small island, and next to the beach is not it. But I do love the ocean, sand and rust everywhere, all the time… not so much…. Green, Yes!

That’s a start,,, will ask more later

Thanks…

Most of the people who participate on this board work on island. There are various vacation boards for visitors, but I know of no other USVI board for relocation and residents.

there is a detailed map here (click St. Croix Map) which shows the areas, quarters, neighborhoods, etc...maybe you can match it up to Google Earth...we have lots of hills here, so the area could be anywhere!

The suggestion to take a look on google Earth is excellent. It is even very interesting for people who already live on the island. I have found out of the way places that I had never actually seen despite years of prowling around.

If you have never visited be sure to spend some time here before making maybe a very costly mistake.

You can download google earth here.

TJ, when you say "working person", are you referring to social class rather than having a job? Most of us here work our hind ends off all day long!

That’s what I am trying to find out..... In lurking you can only get generalities.

There’s been no mention from some of what he/she does, and so far, I have gathered there are a lot of haves and the have not’s can’t even afford a computer.

I knew the post would spark a few up and those would be the ones I’d need to meet. Being a working man myself and see no million dollars in my near future.

Now, if that is "social" class so be it.... Iv'e made 75,000 a year and walked away...

I'm just trying to figure out whats going on here.. 🙂 No offence intended by different usages of posting styles/language usage......

TJ,
This statement refers to STX only, there are sections on the island that are opulent with the money that goes with it. There is a large middle class and an even larger poverty class. We have a lot of snow birds who rent out their homes or condo when not on the island. This is an observation only, I think most middle class are retired and work to subsidise their pensions and or social security.

Its much like Brownsville (or how it used to be about 20 years ago) only it costs about 4x as much to live here and you'll still make a Brownsville salary. Even the retired people usually work a part time job. Few jobs offer benefits. Depending on what you do it can be hard to find a job, save up at least 3 to 4 months worth of living expenses. Unless you are something that is highly in demand you will not get hired from stateside, you have to come here.

The hills are little no mountains, some on the far west and east with pretty small ones in the center. Its mostly a flat island, especially compared to stt and stj.

There are too many areas to go into any detail. There are hundreds of "plantations" that were broken up into estates. Main people go by east, center, north shore, west and south shore. We keep it simple. Directions are by way of turn left after Choclate's bbq and take a right after the rusty tank....etc.... The maps for the tourists have numbers on them, but after you been here a little while you quickly forget them because no one gives directions by them.

It's the Internet. We live on small islands. Some of us attempt a leetle privacy. If you'd like to know what people do for a living, the best thing to do is ask rather than blindside us with false assumptions. Thanks.
